Book Description

Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather PDF Author: Manuel S. Silverman Ph D
Publisher: Author House
ISBN: 1449071341
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 110

Book Description
In a poignant, yet humorous style, Silverman takes you along on an incredible journey of pleasure and pain. His book reaches from the agony of failed marriages, loss of other relationships and termination of employment to the ecstasy of spending sprees, promiscuity, risky behavior, instability and irrational outbursts of elation. Highlights of these experiences are all a part of this recantation. The reader is catapulted into Silvermans insightful, yet often warped picture of his world. In fact, Silverman attributes his being alive today to intrusive interventions and eventual comprehensive treatment, with healthy doses of medication management, individual therapy, couples therapy, support groups and a small circle of caring and understanding friends. Anyone living with bipolar disorder, as a consumer or a family member, will gain a fuller understanding of the insidious nature of this disease and the havoc that it reaps. It is anticipated that these insights may lead the reader to dealing more effectively with this disease and deciding to live a richer, fuller, more meaningful life.

Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 151

Book Description
This book has provided a wellness view of manic depression. Although the stay well stories and plans do not represent all people who experience manic depression, these stories fill an important gap in our understanding of manic depression. Rather than focus only on the 'burden' of manic depression, it is crucial to also listen to people who stay well. These stories provide proof that people with manic depression can aspire to full lives.

Book Description
Do you ever feel like you are the only one who feels so miserable? You're not as alone as you think. I felt lost and alone. Mental illness was destroying my life.To understand a mental illness, you have to get into the mind of someone who has one, which isn't normally something I would recommend. Trust me: my mind can be a scary place. This is my story. It's not pretty and it's not fun, but it's my truth. Before, I thought I was a failure. I will always struggle, but now I know I am more than my yesterdays.More Than My Yesterdays: A Bipolar Journey is an emotional roller coaster you won't want to put down. It's raw. It's honest. It's hopeful. It's also 100% true and accurate. Mental illnesses causes the truth to become skewed in ways those not suffering have a hard time understanding. This book shows it. Truth is universal, but perception molds everything. Anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder are a real part of life. They need to be understood.Previously published as Failure to Thrive: My Journey to Mental Health.

Goodbye Mom

Goodbye Mom PDF Author: George Staursky
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 0595332641
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 314

Book Description
This book is not a biography about a man, but rather it is about a Journey. This is a Journey through life, with this illness, Bipolar Disorder, and all the dynamics that go along with it. This book shows how a man faced the consequences of this disease, and all its pain, bigotry and anguish, but this journey also shows how he defeated the disease. This is a book of his Journey through trauma, tragedy, and recovery. This book is a riveting account of that journey. It includes others who have suffered the indignities of this illness. It brings to life an account of a story that could be written by many different people over time. Destroying a life to save the same life could be construed by many as an oxymoron. However, in this case, it fits the scenario perfectly. As in the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, there had to be destruction of one's inner-self to save everyone from the inner-demons plaguing Dr. Jekyll.

Book Description
THE DRAMATIC STORY OF A PIONEERING MAN, HIS MERCURIAL MIND AND A SOCIETY IN LIMBO. Lowell Klessig’s posthumously-released story, infused with reflections by his son Lukas, provides an intimate window into one man’s life in flux with bipolar disorder. As the author narrates a postwar upbringing and describes the manic-depressive travails of developing his identity, he offers us a view into the turmoil of the times – and of his mind. Through mania- and danger-filled months fighting for Civil Rights, protesting the Vietnam War and furthering the Conservation Movement, we see the purpose that sustained him. Through darkened panes, we witness the isolation and malaise of depressive winters that nearly took his life. This masterful chronicle allows us to peer into a restless and kinetic existence in one moment and a chasm of fatigue and hopelessness on the next page. It’s an account that will provide you new perspective. It's a bipolar journey that you won’t ever forget.

My BiPolar Journey

My BiPolar Journey PDF Author: Harry Sadd
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781645500605
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 290

Book Description
In 1997 my eldest son was diagnosed with bipolar and admitted to Ledger House for treatment. At the interview with the doctor I was asked if anyone in the family had bipolar. It was at this point that I realized that it was me. I was bipolar. The years slipped by and I remembered the agony of being in River view mental hospital. At the time we were more concerned for our son than for me. As we struggled with his illness it was all we could do to keep our family afloat. It was a long time before we had any semblance of normality crept back into our lives. Even after we got home he would go out at night, at the strangest hours, and seemed to need no rest. By the time the fall term had arrived he was back to normal and passed grade 12 without any problem. Now we could relax and off he went to university. Alas it was not to be! He went manic again either through not taking his medication or just because he liked the high. He lived in a halfway house and tried to make ends meet. By this time he was on permanent disability so we did not have to contribute to his upkeep. He struggled through university going one year then being manic and missing the next. Finally, after ten years, he graduated and his mother and I were so proud of him. They kept changing his medication and by trial and error they finally got it right. There was no thought of him using his university degree but rather he settled on being a bridge director. Now, by the grace of God, he has achieved a measure of stability.

Book Description
A small-town childhood, a close-knit family, a successful career, and an Olympic athlete--this was Amy's life...until it wasn't.That's the thing about mental illness, it doesn't care where you grew up, how smart you are, how many awards you've won, or how much money you make. It's an equal opportunity destroyer. From the earliest signs, to the denial, the manic highs, and despondent lows, bipolar disorder has the power to affect every aspect of a person's life. It derailed Amy's athletic and corporate careers, ruined relationships, and caused a whirlwind of chaos within her family. But now she's ready to tell her story.
