Mobile Data Management

Mobile Data Management PDF Author: Kian-Lee Tan

Book Description
Welcome to the Second International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM2001). The conference serves as a forum for the exchange of technical ideas and research results in the areas of mobility and database management. This year, we have a very exciting program for MDM2001. Many quality papers were submitted to the conference. All of the submitted papers were - viewed by at least three PC members. Due to the limitations of the program schedule as well as the desire to organize the conference using a single track format, we selected only 18 papers for full presentation at the conference. As a result many excellent papers could not be accepted. The papers chosen for presentation span a large range of topics, from n- work protocol issues up to the semantics of mobile applications. The common theme of all these papers is their recognition of the central role played by data managementtechniques in the developmentof the emerging worldof mobile and wireless applications. We have loosely organized these papers into six areas: 1. DATA MANAGEMENT ARCHITECTURES, 2. CONTENT DELIVERY, 3. DATA BROADCASTING, 4. CACHING AND HOARDING, 5. COPING WITH MOVEMENT, 6. NETWORKS AND SYSTEMS ISSUES In addition to the researchtrack, we havesought to broaden the scope of the conference with an industrial session as well as poster presentations. Overall, the program strikes a comfortable balance between applied and theoretically oriented papers.

Wireless Networks

Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080481795
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 359

Book Description
Awarded by the International Calabria's Prize! This multidisciplinary volume originates from lectures presented at a short course on wireless communications in Capri, Italy. This globally attended conference has produced an exceptional book written by pioneers in the field. Lecturers at Capri included pillars in the fields of electromagnetics, communications, information technology and mathematics. As communications technology becomes increasingly wireless, an interdisciplinary viewpoint is necessary for professionals to correct problems and avoid others before they occur.Wireless Networks covers critical technology within WLAN, ad hoc networks, data distribution, TV, radio, and personal mobile devices. As networks become wireless, engineers face increased difficulty securing its malleable boundaries. This book discusses security solutions such as sensor technology that prevent unwanted intrusion. Connectivity is also addressed, featuring chapters on antennas, bandwidth and frequencies. Editors Franceschetti and Stornelli have done a great service to the wireless communications community in creating a compendium that delivers this spectrum of essential information in one reference.*Presents a uniquely panoramic view of wireless networks with viewpoints from engineering, computing, and mathematics *The technology is discussed in theory as well as in practice to help engineers design and modify networks *Globally recognized experts share their critical insight on sensor technology, transfering protocol, ad-hoc networks, and more

Mobility Aware Technologies and Applications

Mobility Aware Technologies and Applications PDF Author: Thomas Magedanz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540294104
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 429

Book Description
The beginning of the twenty-first century is characterized by global markets, and the mobility of people is becoming an important fact of life. Consequently, the mobile user is demanding appropriate technical solutions to make use of customized information and communication services. In this context the notion of next-generation networks (NGNs), which are driven by the convergence of the entertainment sector, the mobile Internet, and fixed/mobile telecommunications, is emerging. Such NGNs are aggregating a variety of different access networks and supporting the seamless connection of an open set of end-user devices, and due to the adoption of an all-IP network paradigm they enable a much better integration of voice and data services. Coincidently the buzzword ‘fixed mobile convergence’ (FMC) describes the current trend towards providing common services across fixed and mobile networks resulting in the medium term in the full integration of fixed and mobile telecommunication networks. The adoption of appropriate middleware technologies and the provision of - called service delivery platforms driven by the ongoing innovation in the field of information technologies provides today the technical foundation for supporting terminal, personal and service mobility and thus the implementation of real seamless information and communication services. Furthermore, users are nowadays looking, in light of an omnipresent service environment, for a much higher degree of customization and context awareness in the services they use. The papers in this volume look at these enabling mobility-aware technologies and their use for implementing mobility-aware and context-aware applications.

Wireless Networking for Moving Objects

Wireless Networking for Moving Objects PDF Author: Ivan Ganchev
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319108344
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 312

Book Description
Wireless networks of moving objects have drawn significant attention recently. These types of networks consist of a number of autonomous or semi-autonomous wireless nodes/objects moving with diverse patterns and speeds while communicating via several radio interfaces simultaneously. To overcome current shortcomings, a number of research challenges have to be addressed in this area, ranging from initial conceptualization and modelling, to protocols and architectures engineering, and development of suitable tools, applications and services, and to the elaboration of realistic use-case scenarios by taking into account corresponding societal and economic aspects. By applying a systematic approach the objective of this book is to assess the state of the art and consolidate the main research results achieved in this area. It was prepared as the Final Publication of the COST Action IC0906 “Wireless Networking for Moving Objects (WiNeMO)”. The book contains 15 chapters and is a show-case of the main outcomes of the action in line with its scientific goals. The book will serve as a valuable reference for undergraduate students, post-graduate students, educators, faculty members, researchers, engineers, and research strategists working in this field.
