Intra-Household Interactions in Social-Recreational Activities and Travel

Intra-Household Interactions in Social-Recreational Activities and Travel PDF Author: Kwangkyun Lim
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 171

Book Description
This research explains interactions among household members during daily activity- and travel-related decision-making process with focus on social-recreational activities. Within the broad spectrum of modeling social-recreational activities and travel, this study focuses on three major aspects: Modeling the Generation of Social-Recreational Patterns, Modeling the Choice of Household Vehicle for Social-Recreational Tours, and Modeling the Choice of Time of Day for Joint Social-Recreational Tours. This study uses data from the 2009 National Household Travel Survey conducted in the United States for the estimation of all models. The empirical scope of this work is largely restricted to the analysis of the behavior of couple households (two-adults comprising a male-female couple with or without children). In the context of the generation of social-recreational activity patterns, interpersonal interactions within a household are largely in the form of trade-offs between solo and joint activity participation decisions. This research compares four methods, depending on different decision-making units, that are capable of capturing such interactions between household heads: multinomial logit models, multilinear logit models, parallel choice constrained logit models, and tri-variate binary probit models.

Decision Economics. Designs, Models, and Techniques for Boundedly Rational Decisions

Decision Economics. Designs, Models, and Techniques for Boundedly Rational Decisions PDF Author: Edgardo Bucciarelli
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319996983
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 179

Book Description
The special session on Decision Economics (DECON) is a scientific forum held annually, which is focused on sharing ideas, projects, research results, models, and experiences associated with the complexity of behavioural decision processes and socio‐economic phenomena. In 2018, DECON was held at Campus Tecnológico de la Fábrica de Armas, University of Castilla-La Mancha, Toledo, Spain, as part of the 15th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence. For the third consecutive year, this book have drawn inspiration from Herbert A. Simon’s interdisciplinary legacy and, in particular, is devoted to designs, models, and techniques for boundedly rational decisions, involving several fields of study and expertise. It is worth noting that the recognition of relevant decision‐making takes place in a range of critical subject areas and research fields, including economics, finance, information systems, small and international business management, operations, and production. Therefore, decision‐making issues are of fundamental importance in all branches of economics addressed with different methodological approaches. As a matter of fact, the study of decision‐making has become the focus of intense research efforts, both theoretical and applied, forming a veritable bridge between theory and practice as well as science and business organisations, whose pillars are based on insightful cutting‐edge experimental, behavioural, and computational approaches on the one hand, and celebrating the value of science as well as the close relationship between economics and complexity on the other. In this respect, the international scientific community acknowledges Herbert A. Simon’s research endeavours to understand the processes involved in economic decision‐making and their implications for the advancement of economic professions. Within the field of decision‐making, indeed, Simon has become a mainstay of bounded rationality and satisficing. His rejection of the standard (unrealistic) decision‐making models adopted by neoclassical economists inspired social scientists worldwide with the purpose to develop research programmes aimed at studying decision‐making empirically, experimentally, and computationally. The main achievements concern decision‐making for individuals, firms, markets, governments, institutions, and, last but not least, science and research. This book of selected papers tackles these issues that Simon broached in a professional career spanning more than sixty years. The Editors of this book dedicated it to Herb.

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PDF Author: PRABIR KUMAR SARKAR
Publisher: PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.
ISBN: 8120349946
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 490

Book Description
Transportation planning plays a useful role as a lifeline for any society. It comprises applications of science and art, where a great deal of judgement coupled with its technical elements is required to arrive at a meaningful decision in order to develop transportation infrastructure facilities for the community. Transportation planning, thereby, helps in achieving a safer, faster, comfortable, convenient, economical and environment-friendly movement of people and goods traffic. In this context, an attempt has been made to write a comprehensive book on this subject, which not only deals with the basic principles and fundamentals of transportation planning but also keeps abreast of the current practices and policies conducted in transportation planning. Divided into 23 chapters, the book felicitously proffers the fundamental techniques of transportation planning and travel demand modelling, urban form and urban structure and their relation with transport pattern, land use-transport model, accessibility and mobility consideration in transport modelling, graph theory and road network planning, cost benefit analysis, mass transport planning, applications of intelligent transport system, applications of software in transport planning, and transport policies. Exploiting a systematic approach avoiding prolixity, this book will prove to be a vade mecum for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of civil engineering and transportation engineering. Besides, this book is of immense benefit to the students opting a course on Master of Planning conducted in various institutes. Highlights of the Book • Systematically organised concepts well-supported with ample illustrations • Prodigious illustrative figures and tables • Incorporates chapter-end summary to help in grasping the quirk concepts • Presents state-of-the-art data • Includes chapter-end review questions to help students prepare for examination
