Book Description
L'INTERACTION DE MACROMOLECULES BIOLOGIQUES OU LA COMPLEXATION AVEC DES LIGANDS NECESSITE DES REARRANGEMENTS CONFORMATIONNELS ESSENTIELS A LEUR ACTIVITE BIOLOGIQUE. LA MODELISATION MOLECULAIRE PERMET DE DETERMINER LES STRUCTURES A PARTIR DE PARAMETRES EXPERIMENTAUX. MON TRAVAIL DE THESE A PORTE SUR L'ETUDE DE CES REARRANGEMENTS EN UTILISANT DES DONNEES DE RMN 2D. DEUX SYSTEMES ONT ETE ETUDIES: I) UN OLIGONUCLEOTIDE, L'OPERON LACTOSE COMPLEXE OU NON A SON REPRESSEUR. II) UNE PROTEINE DE BLE TRANSPORTANT DES LIPIDES, LA LTP (EN VUE D'ETUDIER LES DIFFERENCES STRUCTURALES OBTENUES AVEC CETTE MEME PROTEINE COMPLEXEE A UN PHOSPHOLIPIDE). POUR L'OPERON LACTOSE, NOUS DISPOSIONS DE CONTRAINTES RMN SUR L'OPERATEUR ISOLE ET COMPLEXE. UNE ETUDE EFFECTUEE EN UTILISANT LE LOGICIEL AMBER EN MECANIQUE ET DYNAMIQUE MOLECULAIRE NOUS A CONDUITS A DES RESULTATS DIFFICILES A EXPLOITER. SEULE LA MECANIQUE MOLECULAIRE EN COORDONNEES INTERNES (LOGICIEL JUMNA) PERMET DE S'AFFRANCHIR DES STRUCTURES INITIALES. LES MODIFICATIONS DE STRUCTURES ENTRE L'ADN ISOLE ET COMPLEXE SONT TRES LOCALISEES ET CONCERNENT LA STRUCTURE TRES FINE COMME PAR EXEMPLE UNE COURBURE DE LA DOUBLE HELICE. DANS LE CAS DE LA PROTEINE DE BLE, LA GENERATION DE STRUCTURES SE FAIT EN PLUSIEURS TEMPS. TOUT D'ABORD, LA GEOMETRIE DES DISTANCES EN UTILISANT LE LOGICIEL DSPACE PUIS UNE ETAPE DE RECUIT SIMULE A 1000K, ET ENFIN UNE ETAPE DE DYNAMIQUE MOLECULAIRE DE 100 PS A 300K EN UTILISANT LE LOGICIEL X-PLOR. C'EST LA PREMIERE STRUCTURE DE LTP ETABLIE. CETTE PROTEINE EST FORMEE DE QUATRE FRAGMENTS HELICOIDAUX ENROULES SELON UNE SPIRALE DROITE JUSQU'A UN FRAGMENT C-TERMINAL AYANT LA FORME D'UN SAXOPHONE

Major Problems in Developmental Biology

Major Problems in Developmental Biology PDF Author: Michael Locke
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323151132
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 421

Book Description
Major Problems in Developmental Biology contains the proceedings of the 25th Symposium of the Society for Developmental Biology, held in Haverford, Pennsylvania, in June 1966. The papers explore some of the major problems in developmental biology, particularly those relating to cell differentiation, movements, and death; patterning; and intercellular regulation in plants. Organized into 11 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the growth and development of developmental biology as a scientific discipline, with emphasis on the role of the Society for Developmental Biology, and in particular its symposia, in the emergence of the field. The book then discusses the intra- and extracellular factors impinging upon the nucleus and regulating cell differentiation. Some chapters focus on the dynamics of determination in cell systems of insects, morphogenetic movements of animal cells, and patterns at the cell and tissue levels. The reader is also introduced to the correlations between protein structure and function in relation to cell dynamics and differentiation, along with the physiological, biochemical, and molecular biological aspects of intercellular regulation in plants and the role of cell surface in carcinogenesis. The book concludes by suggesting directions for research into the ontogeny of behavior. This book is a valuable source of information for developmental biologists.

Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals

Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals PDF Author: Agnes Buka
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1848167997
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 299

Book Description
The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences PDF Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9780306341205
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis· seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) *at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years. It consists of theses titles arranged by discipline and by university within each discipline.
