Advances on Mechanics, Design Engineering and Manufacturing

Advances on Mechanics, Design Engineering and Manufacturing PDF Author: Benoit Eynard
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319457810
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1208

Book Description
This book gathers papers presented at the International Joint Conference on Mechanics, Design Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (JCM 2016), held on 14-16 September, 2016, in Catania, Italy. It reports on cutting-edge topics in product design and manufacturing, such as industrial methods for integrated product and process design; innovative design; and computer-aided design. Further topics covered include virtual simulation and reverse engineering; additive manufacturing; product manufacturing; engineering methods in medicine and education; representation techniques; and nautical, aeronautics and aerospace design and modeling. The book is divided into eight main sections, reflecting the focus and primary themes of the conference. The contributions presented here will not only provide researchers, engineers and experts in a range of industrial engineering subfields with extensive information to support their daily work; they are also intended to stimulate new research directions, advanced applications of the methods discussed, and future interdisciplinary collaborations.

Friction & Flow Stress in Forming & Cutting

Friction & Flow Stress in Forming & Cutting PDF Author: Philippe Boisse
Publisher: Elsevier Science & Technology
ISBN:
Category : Crafts & Hobbies
Languages : en
Pages : 184

Book Description
In recent years, significant developments have taken place in the application of computational mechanics to cutting and forming operations. The process itself can be affected by very high flow stresses that occur under the extreme conditions created by such operations. . Material behavior, friction, wear and related phenomena can be studied both in actual manufacturing operations and in test set-ups, and mathematical relations thus derived, but doubts have recently arisen about the relationship of such extrapolations to actual industrial operations. The contributors discuss the state of the art and new developments with emphasis on friction and flow stress in actual industrial processes, the modeling of friction and flow stress, the testing under simulated conditions in order to model friction and flow stress in actual industrial processes, the acquisition of detailed information related to fundamental aspects of recent developments like the use of coated tools, high speed machining, unusual workmaterials,,and microprocessing.

Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Mechanical engineering, an engineering discipline borne of the needs of the in dustrial revolution, is once again asked to do its substantial share in the call for industrial renewal. The general call is urgent as we face profound issues of produc tivity and competitiveness that require engineering solutions, among others. The Mechanical Engineering Series features graduate texts and research monographs intended to address the need for information in contemporary areas of mechanical engineering. The series is conceived as a comprehensive one that covers a broad range of concentrations important to mechanical engineering graduate education and re search. We are fortunate to have a distinguished roster of consulting editors on the advisory board, each an expert in one of the areas of concentration. The names of the consulting editors are listed on the next page of this volume. The areas of concentration are applied mechanics, biomechanics, computational mechan ics, dynamic systems and control, energetics, mechanics of materials, processing, thermal science, and tribology.

An Analysis of the Wood-Cutting Process

An Analysis of the Wood-Cutting Process PDF Author: Norman Franz
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780472751426
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
In this technical age, wood-machining has largely remained an art for a lack of scientific investigation in this field. An Analysis of the Wood-Cutting Process was prepared to provide a basic understanding of wood-cutting and in particular of parallel-grain wood-cutting. Norman C. Franz is an Associate Professor of Wood Technology in the School of Natural Resources at the University of Michigan. The wood-cutting process is defined in terms of the interactions between wood properties, cutting geometry, and the friction between the chip and the tool. In continuous observations, three basic types of chip were identified--each having generated a related quality of surface. In the analysis of the mechanics of chip formation, the book describes the determination of machining efficiency and surface quality; by demonstrated calculations of optimum cutting angles for given wood properties, an equation is derived for the control of surface quality in wood-cutting.
