IUTAM Symposium on Turbulent Mixing and Combustion

IUTAM Symposium on Turbulent Mixing and Combustion PDF Author: Andrew Pollard
Publisher: Boom Koninklijke Uitgevers
ISBN: 9781402007477
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 488

Book Description
This volume contains reviewed papers. The invited lectures considered the many challenges posed by adding one element to the base formed by others: turbulence and turbulent mixing in the absence of combustion through to turbulent mixing dominated by chemistry and combustion. The Symposium benefited from experimental, theoretical and computational contributions, which were focussed on either fundamental or more practical questions. Extensive discussions that followed each paper are included and add to the richness of the Proceedings.

Numerical Combustion

Numerical Combustion PDF Author: Alain Dervieux
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783662137482
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 483

Book Description
Interest in numerical combustion is growing among applied mathematicians, physicists, chemists, engine manufacturers and many industrialists. This proceedings volume contains nine invited lectures and twenty seven contributions carefully selected by the editors. The major themes are numerical simulation of transsonic and supersonic combustion phenomena, the study of supersonic reacting mixing layers, and turbulent combustion. Emphasis is laid on hyperbolic models and on numerical simulations of hydrocarbon planes with a complete set of chemical reactions carried out in two-dimensional geometries as well as on complex reactive flow simulations.

Genmix

Genmix PDF Author: D Brian Spalding
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483188175
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 393

Book Description
Genmix: A General Computer Program for Two-dimensional Parabolic Phenomena explains a computer program called GENMIX. The main intention of the program is to be used as a tool of instructions. The name of the program is a mixture of two considerations: its generality and its concern for mixing processes. The book aims to help the potential user to understand the physical and mathematical basis of the topic computer program. It is also the aim of the book to make the program applicable to practical problems. The book is arranged in such a way as to parallel a course of lectures and associated computer-workshop sessions wherein the student is allowed to do some elementary computations as soon as he has gained some knowledge of the method. The book contains the mathematical, physical, and computer-coding aspects of the program. Concepts such as the boundary layer, two-dimensional, and steady- flow are defined and discussed in depth. The text will be a useful tool for computer instructors and students.

Combustion and Flames

Combustion and Flames PDF Author: Roland Borghi
Publisher: Editions Technips
ISBN: 9782710807407
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Professionals working in the field of combustion may well find many points of interest, highlighted by the book's logical and global approach to phenomena, which considers mechanical, thermal and chemical aspects simultaneously. The book prioritises an understanding of the physical and chemical aspects of the phenomena, and lays particular emphasis on experimental analyses and modern numerical simulations, and on the way in which these phenomena are translated into equations.Contents: Introduction: Discovering combustion and flames. 1. Combustion thermodynamics. 2. Chemical kinetics applied to combustion. 3. Mass and energy transport by convection and diffusion. 4. Self-ignitions in closed systems. 5. Laminar flames and deflagrations. 6. Turbulent flames and deflagrations. 7. Detonation and supersonic combustion. 8. Flame ignition. 9. Combustion of liquids and sprays. 10. Pollutant emissions in combustion reactions. Index.

Calculations in Furnace Technology

Calculations in Furnace Technology PDF Author: Clive Davies
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483136051
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 287

Book Description
Calculations in Furnace Technology presents the theoretical and practical aspects of furnace technology. This book provides information pertinent to the development, application, and efficiency of furnace technology. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the exothermic reactions that occur when carbon, hydrogen, and sulfur are burned to release the energy available in the fuel. This text then evaluates the efficiencies to measure the quantity of fuel used, of flue gases leaving the plant, of air entering, and the heat lost to the surroundings. Other chapters consider that it is important to determine the amount of carbon discharged with the ashes, the quantity and composition of any tar produced, so that a carbon balance can be applied. The final chapter describes the various reactions within the furnace atmosphere and between charges and atmosphere. This book is a valuable resource for fuel technologists, heating and ventilating engineers, and plant operators.

Emissions from Continuous Combustion Systems

Emissions from Continuous Combustion Systems PDF Author: W. Cornelius
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468419986
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 474

Book Description
This volume documents the proceedings of the Symposium on Emissions from Continuous Combustion Systems that was held at the General Motors Research Laboratories, Warren, Michigan on September 27 and 28, 1971. This symposium was the fifteenth in an annual series presented by the Research Laboratories. Each symposium has covered a different technical discipline. To be selected as the theme of a symposium, the subject must be timely and of vital interest to General Motors as well as to the technical community at large. For each symposium, the practice is to solicit papers at the forefront of research from recognized authorities in the technical discipline of interest. Approximately sixty scientists and engineers from academic, government and industrial circles in this country and abroad are then invited to join about an equal number of General Motors technical personnel to discuss freely the commissioned papers. The technical portion of the meeting is supplemented by social functions at which ample time is afforded for informal exchanges of ideas amongst the participants. By such a direct interaction of a small and select group of informed participants, it is hoped to extend the boundaries of research in the selected technical field.
