Book Description
Excerpt from Mischiefs of the Malt Tax: And Reasons for Its Total and Immediate Repeal, and How It May Be Effected The object of this volume is to present to the public an outline of the manifold and. serious evils attributable alone to the iniquitous Malt Tax. The author has endeavoured to explain how it affects and injures the Farmer, and how he (the agriculturist) may be placed in the same position as he was in the happy days of Protection; how this impost oppresses the poor man, and why it is he cannot attain to that which his Maker designed him to be, namely, a man of high moral principles and Christian feeling. Also, how its machinery affects every article of consumption, and how the income yielded by the tax may be replaced, so that the repeal shall not interfere with the necessary expenditure of the country.
