Book Description
THE faithful children of the Church, throughout the Catholic world, as well as every true religious, cherish the devotion to the Most Holy Virgin, strive to obtain its true spirit and observe all the practices it enjoins, because they feel that this devotion satisfies the innermost wants of the soul, opens up an unfailing fountain of divine grace, and procures for us the purest - the most inexpressible joys. Among the most efficacious means which our Holy Mother the Church has instituted to promote and foster this devotion in our souls, there is none more beneficial in its effects and influence than the holy practice of regular and daily meditation on the prerogatives, the life, the virtues, the glorious mission of Mary; of contemplating, by the light of faith, the Most Blessed Virgin, the master-piece of the Creator, the model of all virtues, the exalted Mother of the Incarnate Word, the Queen of Heaven, raised in glory far above the cherubim, yet, tenderly hearkening to our supplications, shedding around us the love of her own heart, accepting our humble offerings, and bestowing upon us those celestial treasures which flow through her as the channel of divine mercy. It is impossible to meditate on the attributes of Mary without being filled with the most intense desire to honor her name and invoke her intercession so to live as to merit her protection now, that hereafter we may participate in her glory. Who can behold her in anyone of the aspects in which she presents herself to our piety without experiencing, in his heart, the love of the most exalted virtue? The object of the present work is to render some aid in the proper performance of this holy and salutary exercise. We shall consider in order: 1. The life of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. 2. Her virtues. 3. Her exalted greatness and her patronage. 4. The devotion of which she is the object. The Meditations will be sufficiently numerous: I. For all the Feasts of the Most Blessed Virgin. 2. For every day in the month of Mary. 3. For the Saturdavs on which no particular feast occurs.

BLESSED

BLESSED PDF Author: JOYCE PRANGER VENAGLIA
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1479749443
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 139

Book Description
Like a many faceted diamond, Dr. Joyce Venaglia opens to the readers the many insights into the Word of God as found in Matthews Gospel. Each chapter, each verse, each word written therein can act as springboard from which even the most uneducated can find inspiration in their daily lives. Learning to read the Sacred Scriptures prayerfully is an excellent way to respond to our call to holiness. Growing in holiness in our daily humdrum lives means first and foremost to keep our minds and hearts focused on the Living Word Jesus and through the written word. Originally Dr. Joyce intended to publish this book as a booklet for the use of lent, but upon completion of it realized that the “seeds ”gleaned in her meditations can be most beneficial for anyone who is truly desirous of living a Holy life at any time, in any season. The book is not meant to be read as novel, but slowly and prayerfully. Although the seriousness of Lent and the joyous celebration of Easter come but once a year, everyday offers us new opportunities to become more and more transformed through the grace of God and his holy spirit into living receptacles of his grace and a written word to the world around us. Through the reading of these inspiring meditations, my prayer is: that through our daily reading of Sacred Scriptures we will all be changed into a perfect image of the Lord Jesus

Everyday Meditations

Everyday Meditations PDF Author: John Henry Newman
Publisher: Sophia Institute Press
ISBN: 1622821653
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 193

Book Description
Over the years, the brilliant and often voluminous scholarly writings of Bl. John Henry Newman (1801-1890), have drawn into the Church thousands more converts after him. In this more modest work, his Everyday Meditations, we encounter not Newman the intellectual but Newman the simple Christian, on his knees face-to-face with God. Confident that the Church teaches us rightly but knowing as well that each of us must walk closely with God — hearing His voice not only through the Church but in the depths of our own hearts — Newman here shows us how to look to Jesus and declare: I need you to teach me day by day, according to each day's opportunities and needs. Teach me . . . to sit at your feet and to hear your word. Give me that true wisdom which seeks your will by prayer and meditation. . . . Give me the discernment to know your voice from the voice of strangers, to rest upon it, and to seek it in the first place. This was Newman's greatest desire. It awakened in him ceaseless prayer, countless good works, a profound love of the sacraments, and the habit of daily meditation which strengthened his will, deepened his understanding, and enkindled in him an ever greater love of God. For those qualities, Pope Francis will canonize Newman on October 13, 2019. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that ongoing growth in sanctity is "an uninterrupted task for the whole Church." If in recent times yours has been interrupted (or merely slowed down), let it begin anew with this modest book. To help you discern God's voice daily, rest in it, and respond to it according to each day's opportunities and needs, we have here gathered fifty of Newman's most moving Christian meditations, each guaranteed to enkindle in your soul the very same kind of love they enkindled in his. As they nurtured Newman's daily acts of conversion and finally made him worthy of the title "Saint," so will they call you to daily acts of conversion and finally lead you, as they led Newman, "to bow down in awe before the depths of God's love."
