Book Description
In this thesis we present the measurement of D0 - $\bar{D}$0 mixing parameter yCP using the full BABAR data sample. We also searched for CP violation in the D0 → K+K-, [pi]+[pi]- channels, finding the parameter [Delta]Y compatible with zero. In Chapter 1, we briefly review the SM and introduce the theoretical framework of neutral meson mixing and CP violation. The BABAR detector and the performance of each sub-detector are described in Chapter 2. In Chapter 3, we present an overview of the analysis including a brief description of the previous similar BABAR analyses and the expected improvements in the present analysis. The candidate reconstruction and selection are described in Chapter 4, together with the optimization of the signal region. The signal and background event classes are described in Chapter 5, where we also provide the probability density functions used to extract the mixing and CP violating parameter. In Chapter 6 we describe the various crosschecks performed to validate the analysis and the evaluation of the systematic error. Finally in Chapter 7 we present the final results and their interpretation.

Measurement of CP Violation in B0d Mixing Using B0d 2!D*-[mu]+([nu][mu]X Decays

Book Description
This thesis describes the measurement of the time-integrated semileptonic charge asymmetry in B0d mixing, ad sl, using the decay chain of B0d! D*-[mu]+([nu][mu]), D*-! D0[pi]-, D0! K+[pi]-. Decay candidates are reconstructed from 10.4 fb-1 of data recorded by the DØ detector at Fermilab's Tevatron p$\bar{p}$ collder during the 2002- 2011 'RunII' data taking period. Yields are extracted using a 2 minimising simultaneous binned fit where 490k D candidates are reconstructed. The measurements presented in this thesis was made possible due to sophisticated online and offline reconstruction software, precise tracking systems, and the first-order background asymmetry negating magnet polarity reversal of the DØ detector.

Searches for New Physics in CP Violation from BaBar

Pages : 9

Book Description
Results of recent searches for new physics in CP violation in charm decays from the BABAR experiment are presented. These results include a measurement of D0 - anti D0 mixing and searches for CP violation in two-body D0 decays, a search for CP violation in the charm decays D" 2!KS0K " and D s" 2!KS0K", KS0[pi]", and a search for direct CP violation in the singly-Cabibbo suppressed D" 2!K+K-[pi]"decays. These studies are based on the fi nal dataset collected by BABAR at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC in the period 1999-2008. No evidence of CP violation is found in these charm decays. The measured mixing parameter yCP = [0.72 " 0.18(stat) " 0.12(syst)]% excludes the no-mixing null hypothesis with a signifi cance of 3.3[sigma].

Measurement of D0 - $\bar{D}$0 Mixing With a Time-Dependent Amplitude Analysis of D0 2!K+ [pi]- [pi]0

Measurement of D0 - $\bar{D}$0 Mixing With a Time-Dependent Amplitude Analysis of D0 2!K+ [pi]- [pi]0 PDF Author:

Book Description
Flavor mixing of neutral mesons is a long and well known phenomenon in particle physics. Experimental evidence of mixing of the neutral kaon was obtained in 1956, followed in 1987 by the evidence of Bd mixing. In 1974, A. Pais and S.B. Treiman firstly introduced the idea of charm mixing and CP violation. Even though many searches were conducted over time, it was clear that the small scale at which both amplitude and frequency of the oscillation took place made any possible observation challenging. In 2007, both the BABAR and Belle experiments announced the first evidence of mixing in the charm sector. The analyses concerned the study of a two body decay of the D0 meson. Few months later, BABAR presented the analysis of the decay D0 2!K+[pi]-[pi]0 . This is the main topic of this thesis.

D0 - D0bar Mixing

Pages : 12

Book Description
Recently, the B factory experiments BABAR and Belle as well as the CDF collaboration found evidence for mixing in the D meson system. The current status (beginning of summer 2008) of the experimental results of D° mixing is summarized. In this paper, we present an overview of D° mixing. After an introduction to the charm mixing phenomenology and analysis techniques, results of the mixing parameters and CP violation as related to mixing are summarized. They are obtained from hadronic two-body, multi-body final states and from quantum correlated D° decays of the experiments BABAR, Belle, Cleo and CDF. Mixing results from semileptonic D° decays can be found elsewhere.
