Ion-Molecule Reactions

Ion-Molecule Reactions PDF Author: J. Franklin
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475700881

Book Description
After a few faint stirrings of interest in ion-molecule reactions during the early days of mass spectrometry, the subject was almost completely neglected for many years. There was a renascence of interest in the subject following pioneering experiments by Tal'roze in Russia and independently by Steven son and Schissler and Field, Franklin, and Lampe in this country. Since that time, interest in the subject has continued to grow and the number of papers published to expand almost exponentially during the past 15 years. The result is a body of literature that is now almost beyond any single individual's capacity for encompassing in his reading and research activities. Thus, it seemed timely to prepare a book giving in some detail a comprehen sive review of the field. Ideally, such a book would be written by one or possibly two authors. Unfortunately, the sheer bulk and variety of the studies of ion-molecule reactions has made it impractical for a single person to prepare a book on the subject in a time that would permit it to be issued before the material covered was obsolete. Consequently, the only practical, although surely not the ideal, solution is to issue a multiauthor volume. The present book represents our best efforts to accomplish this goal. We have secured from 18 authors material representing the most advanced work in the field and the resulting compilation is presented herein.

Measuring Mass

Measuring Mass PDF Author: Michael A. Grayson
Publisher: Chemical Heritage Foundation
ISBN: 9780941901314
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 164

Book Description
Measuring Mass: From Positive Rays to Proteins is part of a celebration of fifty years of the Annual Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics. As such, it is intended not only for practitioners of mass spectrometry but also for the lay reader interested in knowing more about the field. Many who practice the art and science of mass spectrometry are unaware of how the technique is applied outside their particular area of expertise. This short exposition will provide the practitioner and lay reader alike with an appreciation for the diverse applications of mass spectrometry in present-day scientific endeavors. Measuring Mass is also intended to celebrate the major events in the history of mass spectrometry. While a complete history of the field would require a tome of much greater size, this book provides a flavor of how mass spectrometry developed from an early-20th-century curiosity of the physics laboratory into the powerful analytical tool of today. The intertwined stories of advances in the technology and instrumentation of mass spectrometry with the demand to extend the tool to more complex analytical problems are explored in chapters on applications in geology, chemistry, biology, pharmaceuticals, space, the environment and forensic science.

Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849348815
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 520

Book Description
Pulse Radiolysis presents an in-depth discussion of the pulse radiolysis technique, one of the most important and powerful means for detecting transient and relaxation phenomena and following their behavior in irradiated systems. The book covers the principle of pulse radiolysis, identifies various kinds of pulse radiolysis techniques, and discusses recent advancements in the field. The text also discusses new experimental pulse radiolysis techniques (basic and applied) in broad scientific fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering. These techniques include picosecond pulse radiolysis, single particle radiolysis, and muon-induced transient phenomena. Pulse Radiolysis provides essential information for all professionals involved with pulse radiolysis research.
