SAYRE FAMILY another 100 years, in a large part, focuses on the early pioneers who came to or passed through the Ohio Valley of West Virginia and Ohio. At least three direct descendants of Thomas had made settlements in that area by the Nineteenth Century. One, David Sayre, came from New Jersey about 1778, and left many descendants who still lived in that area at the beginning of the Twenty-first Century. The bulk of this genealogy covers those, while other Sayre families whose ancestral links were not discovered are also included. The three generations of ancestors above each family block makes tracing easier.

This is the fifth volume of Dr. Justin Glenn’s comprehensive history that traces the “Presidential line” of the Washingtons. Volume One began with the immigrant John Washington, who settled in Westmoreland Co., Va., in 1657, married Anne Pope, and became the great-grandfather of President George Washington. It continued the record of their descendants for a total of seven generations. Ancestors and descendants of George Riley Washington McCoy (1859-195), who was the son of Isaiah and Jane Stewart McCoy. He was born on Galispel Ridge at Capehart, a few miles back of Arbuckle, in Mason Co., Virginia (now West Virginia). In 1878 at the age of nineteen he married (1) Mary Abigail Strait (1858-1894), the daughter of William and Jane Cain Strait. She was born in Wetzel Co., Va. George and Mary McCoy had seven children. In 1903, George McCoy, married (2) Louisa Sayre (1878-1969). She was the daughter of Andrew J. Sayre and Sarah Jacobs. They had five children. Descendants live in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia and elsewhere.
