Book Description
Excerpt from The European Market for Dry Edible Beans and Related Pulses The following report is based largely upon information obtained during the october-december period, 1949, from the dry edible bean and related pulse trade and from agricultural officials while the writer visited Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The informa tion obtained was supplemented by data taken from reports or records of United States Foreign Service Officers and from those of the United States Department of Agriculture. The writer is indebted to firms of the United States engaged in the import and export trade of dry pulses for recommending key people to see in Europe. He also wishes to thank foreign importers who cooperated in every way possible to make the report a success by furnishing pulse information, type samples, pictures, and statistics. Many of the photographs used are by the kind permission of Batchelors Peas Ltd Sheffield, England, W. P. Vanden Heuvel, Merxem, Belgium, and R. W. Gunson (seeds), Ltd London, England. Special thanks are also due Messrs. Gustave Burmeister and Orval goodsell, (hufll for editing and recommendations, to Mr. R. G. Hainsworth for the preparation of trade charts, and to Helen L. Black, pma, for special efforts in preparing the pulse figures for photographing. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
