Management Quality and Competitiveness

Management Quality and Competitiveness PDF Author: Christoph H. Loch
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540791841
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 159

Book Description
“He who stops getting better has stopped being good. ” Hans Schneider, General Manager of the Siemens Amberg Electronics Factory, Industrial Excellence Award overall winner 2007 There is a general perception that inflexible labor markets and high labor costs are contributing to a massive displacement of manufacturing jobs and investment from Western Europe to Eastern Europe and Asia. The debate in Western Europe is highly charged, but sometimes ill-informed. It is true that some low-skilled jobs are moving into low labor cost countries. On the other hand, many more highly skilled jobs are actually being created in the highly developed countries. The total impact on Western economies is much more complicated, and there is some evidence of important benefits. In this book, we showcase examples of excellent industrial management that has managed to create substantial job growth in manufacturing. This book is based on 14 years’ observation of the Industrial Excellence Award (IEA) in Germany and France, the first ten years of which we summarized in our previous book, Industrial Excellence (Springer 2003), and on an additional five years of obser- tion between 2002 and 2007. We have seen that management’s first and noble responsibility to society is to achieve competitiveness. Competitive organizations create growth and jobs, even in Western Europe. Competitiveness requires clearly articulated strategic positioning, together with excellent execution, and mobili- tion of all employees to apply their abilities and to pull in one direction.

Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 225

Book Description
As firms struggle in the modern era to achieve financial success, many recognize that a global economy has made their task more challenging than ever before. Universal access to the latest information and the ability to duplicate technological capabilities make it difficult for firms to sustain previously existing competitive advantages.Business leaders understand that the challenges that they face require a new and much more behavioral approach to managing their companies than has been successful in the past. In this volume, we address the quest for success in a world where innovation and constant change threaten the status quo.Today's successful leaders recognize the importance of creating organizational cultures that build trust, treat employees as valued partners, and provide those employees with the resources to constantly learn.Emphasizing a value-based and behavioral approach to managing employees, many of the chapters of this book address the importance of a strategic approach that is committed to both organizational excellence and the best interests of a company's employees.Nearly eighty years ago, Chester Barnard emphasized that successful organizations both pursue a worthy purpose that benefits society and strive to satisfy the individual needs of its membership. This volume endorses the importance that successful organizations today are committed to values that inspire others, work for the best interests of the global community, and demonstrate a commitment to constant improvement. The theme of this volume is that competitive advantage can best be achieved by leaders and companies that are constantly learning, looking for more effective and efficient ways to assist customers, and those who are dedicated to innovation and the pursuit of excellence.

Controlling for Competitiveness

Controlling for Competitiveness PDF Author: Fredrik Nilsson
Publisher: Copenhagen Business School Press DK
ISBN: 9788763002424
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 324

Book Description
Organizational strategies are important in today's highly competitive environments. Businesses, as well as public sector organizations, need a unifying logic, which emerges out of dialogue among its members and also guides their actions. An organization's 'control system' has potential to become a key to this. Controlling for Competitiveness describes how management control is crucial in mobilizing, using, and communicating the knowledge and skills of managers and employees. Controllers should design situation-specific control systems, assuring that actions will be based on appropriate information and incentives. Enterprise systems facilitate coordination and information exchange, thus enabling the development of a consistent and congruent strategy throughout the organization. The involvement of all levels of management - as well as most employees - in this process creates motivation and commitment to the organization's strategy. It also prepares for executing strategy through a creative use of metrics, decision tools, and clarified responsibilities. The book underlines the need to understand management control as part of the organization's control mix (control package). It provides numerous examples of how systems and people interact in shaping a strategic focus in private as well as publicly-owned organizations. In addition to the authors' research experiences, the book is based on recent interviews with 16 leading complex organizations in the private and public sector.

Competitive Business Management

Competitive Business Management PDF Author: Silvio M. Brondoni
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 0429801238
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 187

Book Description
The growth of global corporations has led to the development of new business strategies whose complexity and configuration rest on corporate networks; corporate cross-culture and intangible corporate and product assets. In global markets, corporations compete in a competitive marketspace dimension, in other words, competitive boundaries in which space is not a stable element of the decision-making process, but a competitive factor whose complexity depends on markets increasingly characterized by time-based competition and over-supply. In view of today's fierce competition from US and Southeast Asian corporations, this book highlights global business development policies based on innovation, sustainability and intangible assets. The book assesses competitive business management from a global perspective, examining business development policies linked to the profitability of global firms. It forces readers to actively think through the most fundamental policies developed by global firms in the current competitive landscape and provides answers to questions such as: What are the new drivers of global capitalism?; How do global businesses deal with new local nationalism?; Which governance systems and behavioural norms qualify global businesses?; What are the main business policies that characterize competitive business management in a global competition perspective? Competitive Business Management neatly explains the global business management domain and helps readers to gain an understanding of global development business policies.

Subramaniam presents digital ecosystems as a combination of production and consumption ecosystems, which can be used by legacy firms to unlock the value of data at various levels—from improving operational efficiencies to creating new data-driven services and transforming traditional products into digital platforms. He explores the ways sensors and the Internet of Things provide new kinds of customer data; presents the concept of digital competitors—other firms that have access to similar data; discusses the new digital capabilities that firms need to develop; and addresses privacy and security issues associated with data sharing.
