Book Description
Compounds with perovskite structures have become one of the focuses in both materials science and condensed matter physics because of their fascinating physical properties and potential functionalities correlated to magnetic structures. However, the understanding of the intriguing physical properties is still at an exploratory stage. Herein, owing to the magnetic frustration prompted by Mn6N or Mn6C octahedra, the abounding magnetic structures of antiperovskites, including collinear antiferromagnetic, collinear ferromagnetic, collinear ferrimagnetic, non-collinear magnetic, and non-coplanar magnetic spin configurations, are systematically introduced through the updated coverage. In addition, owing to the “spin-lattice-charge” coupling of antiperovskites, a large number of physical properties, such as anomalous thermal expansion, giant magnetoresistance, anomalous Hall effect, piezomagnetic/baromagnetic effects, magnetocaloric effect, barocaloric effect, etc., are summarized by combining the discussions of the determined magnetic structures. This review aims to clarify the current research progress in this field, focusing on the relationship between the magnetic structures and the correlated physical properties, and provides the conclusion and outlook on further performance optimization and mechanism exploration in antiperovskites.

Electronic Structure, Correlation Effects and Physical Properties of D- and F-metals and Their Compounds
Author: Valentin Yu Irkhin
Publisher: Cambridge Int Science Publishing
ISBN: 190460255X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 464
Book Description
The book includes all main physical properties of d- and f-transition-metal systems and corresponding theoretical concepts. Special attention is paid to the theory of magnetism and transport phenomena. Some examples of non-traditional questions which are treated in detail in the book: the influence of density of states singularities on electron properties; many-electron description of strong itinerant magnetism; mechanisms of magnetic anisotropy; microscopic theory of anomalous transport phenomena in ferromagnets. Besides considering classical problems of solid state physics as applied to transition metals, modern developments in the theory of correlation effects in d- and f-compounds are considered within many-electron models. The book contains, where possible, a simple physical discussion. More difficult questions are considered in Appendices.

Comprehensive Inorganic Chemistry II
Author:
Publisher: Newnes
ISBN: 0080965296
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 7694
Book Description
Comprehensive Inorganic Chemistry II, Nine Volume Set reviews and examines topics of relevance to today’s inorganic chemists. Covering more interdisciplinary and high impact areas, Comprehensive Inorganic Chemistry II includes biological inorganic chemistry, solid state chemistry, materials chemistry, and nanoscience. The work is designed to follow on, with a different viewpoint and format, from our 1973 work, Comprehensive Inorganic Chemistry, edited by Bailar, Emeléus, Nyholm, and Trotman-Dickenson, which has received over 2,000 citations. The new work will also complement other recent Elsevier works in this area, Comprehensive Coordination Chemistry and Comprehensive Organometallic Chemistry, to form a trio of works covering the whole of modern inorganic chemistry. Chapters are designed to provide a valuable, long-standing scientific resource for both advanced students new to an area and researchers who need further background or answers to a particular problem on the elements, their compounds, or applications. Chapters are written by teams of leading experts, under the guidance of the Volume Editors and the Editors-in-Chief. The articles are written at a level that allows undergraduate students to understand the material, while providing active researchers with a ready reference resource for information in the field. The chapters will not provide basic data on the elements, which is available from many sources (and the original work), but instead concentrate on applications of the elements and their compounds. Provides a comprehensive review which serves to put many advances in perspective and allows the reader to make connections to related fields, such as: biological inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, solid state chemistry and nanoscience Inorganic chemistry is rapidly developing, which brings about the need for a reference resource such as this that summarise recent developments and simultaneously provide background information Forms the new definitive source for researchers interested in elements and their applications; completely replacing the highly cited first edition, which published in 1973

Planewaves, Pseudopotentials and the LAPW Method
Author: David J. Singh
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475723121
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 121
Book Description
Over the past decade the world's technological and industrial base has become increasingly dependent on advanced materials. There is every indication that this trend will accelerate and that progress in many areas will increasingly depend on the development of new materials and processing techniques. A second and equally significant trend is the continuing ascent of the information technologies, which now touch almost every aspect of life in some way. In this environment it is natural that there is a strong interest in using numerical modeling in materials science. With its extreme accuracy and reasonable computational efficiency, the linearized augmented plane wave (LAPW) method has emerged as the standard by which density functional calculations for transition metal and rare-earth containing materials are judged. Planewaves, Pseudopotentials and the LAPW Method presents a thorough and self-contained exposition of the LAPW method, making this powerful technique more accessible to researchers and students who have some familiarity with local density approximation calculations. Theory is discussed, but the emphasis is on how practical implementation proceeds. In addition, the author suggests future directions for adapting the LAPW method to simulations of complex materials requiring large unit cells. He does this by elucidating the connections between the LAPW method and planewave pseudopotential approaches and by showing how Car--Parrinello type algorithms can be adapted to the LAPW method. Planewaves, Pseudopotentials and the LAPW Method is a valuable resource for researchers already involved in electronic structure calculations, as well as for newcomers seeking quick mastery of the LAPW technique.

Perovskite Ceramics
Author: Jose Luis Clabel Huaman
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323907105
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 626
Book Description
Perovskite-based ceramics are a significant class of innovative materials with fascinating physical properties, which are now receiving intensive research attention in condensed matter physics and in the area of practical device applications. Perovskite Ceramics provides a state-of-the-art review on the latest advances in perovskite-based ceramic materials, as well as the development of devices from these materials for different applications. Perovskite Ceramics: Recent Advances and Emerging Applications is divided into two main parts. The first part focuses on the basics of perovskite-based ceramic materials and includes chapters on the fundamentals, synthesis and processing, characterization, and properties of these materials. Chapters are also included on bulk and thin materials, phase transitions, polaronic effects and the compensation and screening of ferroelectricity. This section will allow the reader to familiarize themselves with the standard traditional approach, but it will also introduce new concepts that are fast evolving in this field. The second part presents an extensive review of up-to-date research on new and innovative advances in perovskite-based ceramic materials. Chapters cover multiferroic applications, lead-free perovskites, energy storage applications, perovskite-based memories, light manipulation and spectral modifications, and solar cells and fuel cells. All these fields of research are rapidly evolving, so the book acts a platform to showcase latest results on optical strategies and materials for light manipulation, and spectral up- and down-conversion too (mainly rare earth doped oxides and complexes). The book will be an essential reference resource for academic and industrial researchers working in materials research and development particularly in functional and oxide ceramics and perovskites. A comprehensive and systematic review of advanced research in perovskite-based ceramics Covers both oxide and halide perovskites, their synthesis, processing, properties and applications Presents advanced methods of synthesis as well as latest applications Discusses all aspects from theory to production Covers the most important advances both in terms of new materials and application strategies
