Biocatalysis Based on Heme Peroxidases
Author: Eduardo Torres
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642126278
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 360
Book Description
The last systematic description of heme peroxidases was published in 1999 by Brian Dunford, from the University of Alberta in Canada. The book Heme per- idases covers discussion on three-dimensional structure, reaction mechanism, kinetics, and spectral properties of representative enzymes from bacterial, plant, fungal, and animal origin. Since 1999, vast information on basic but also applied aspects of heme peroxidases has been generated. We believe fusion of these two aspects will bene?t research of those dedicated to development of biocatalytic process. The aim of this book is to present recent advances on basic aspects such as evolution, structure–function relation, and catalytic mechanism, as well as applied aspects, such as bioreactor and protein engineering, in order to provide the tools for rational design of enhanced biocatalysts and biocatalytic processes. The book does not include an exhaustive listing of references but rather a selected collection to enrich discussion and to allow envisioning future directions for research. This book is organized in three parts. In Part I, current knowledge of structure and mechanism of peroxidases is covered. From the molecular phylogeny, going through the in?uence of structural factors over oxidative ability to the molecular mechanism of catalysis, the authors intend to provide an understanding of per- idases at the molecular level. The understanding of the fundamental behavior of peroxidases will allow further adequation, design, and/or optimization of pero- dase-based catalysis to a particular process. In Part II, research on potential applications of peroxidases in several ?elds is presented and discussed.

The Smallest Biomolecules: Diatomics and their Interactions with Heme Proteins
Author: Abhik Ghosh
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080556329
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 627
Book Description
This is not a book on NO biology, nor about hemoglobin, nor about heme-based sensors per se. Of course, it covers all these topics and more, but above all, it aims at providing a truly multidisciplinary perspective of heme-diatomic interactions. The overarching goal is to build bridges among disciplines, to bring about a meeting of minds. The contributors to this book hail from diverse university departments and disciplines – chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, zoology, physics, medicine and surgery, bringing with them very different views of heme-diatomic interactions. The hope is that the juxtaposition of this diversity will lead to increased exchanges of ideas, approaches, and techniques across traditional disciplinary boundaries. The authors represent a veritable Who's Who of heme protein research and include John Olson, Tom Spiro, Walter Zumft, F. Ann Walker, Teizo Kitagawa, W. Robert Scheidt, Pat Farmer, Marie-Alda Gilles-Gonzalez, and many other equally distinguished scientists. - Extremely distinguished list of authors - Multidisciplinary character – equally suitable for chemists and biochemists - Covers the hottest topics in heme protein research: sensors, NO biology, new roles of hemoglobin, etc.

The Porphyrins V3
Author: David Dolphin
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323143903
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 655
Book Description
The Porphyrins, Volume III: Physical Chemistry, Part A deals with the physical chemistry of porphyrins, their precursors, catabolic derivatives, and related systems. The book covers electronic structure and spectroscopy including circular dichroism and magnetic circular dichroism as well as electronic, infrared, resonance Raman, and Zeeman spectroscopy. Porphyrin stereochemistry, X-ray crystallography, and mass spectroscopy are also included. This volume is organized into 12 chapters and begins with an overview of the optical absorption and emission spectra of porphyrins and the theory by which these facts are understood. The discussion then shifts to the electronic states of the iron porphyrin complex in various heme proteins as displayed by the light absorption properties in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The reader is methodically introduced to the electronic absorption spectra and molecular orbital theory of chlorophylls, the magnetic optical activity of porphyrins and hemoproteins, and circular dichroism studies of hemoproteins. The book also examines the mass spectra and infrared spectroscopy of porphyrins, resonance Raman scattering from metalloporphyrins and hemoproteins, and photographic essay of porphyrins and related macrocycles. It then concludes with a chapter on high-resolution Zeeman spectroscopy of metalloporphyrins. This book should be useful to inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemists interested in the physical chemistry of porphyrins.
