Book Description
Coal-fired power plants are expected to continue to account for a significant share in the Philippines' energy mix until 2020 despite strong headwinds from government and civil society. Although the country will continue to exploit alternative energy sources, fossil it will still continue to attract emerging markets to invest on coal projects. The Proposed coal fired power plant in La Union is not an exemption. Even though a lot of environmental groups are opposing to it, it's construction is still inevitable. This development will eventually lead to destruction of the natural setting of the site and will cause numerous negative environmental and social impacts. Regenerative Design describes processes that restore, renew or revitalize their own sources of energy and materials. By integrating regenerative design through architecture, the coal power plant will be boosted to a more positive paradigm. The aim of this study is to explore the possibilities of Regenerative Design to mitigate the risks of the proposed coal power plant in La, Union. The goal will be obtained by the following objectives. (1) To identify the negative environmental impacts of the proposed coal power plant in Luna, La Union. (2) To integrate Regenerative Design in mitigating the environmental risks gathered (3) To provide design strategies that promote a regenerative and ecological coal power plant. This thesis proposal is project based and shall be analyzed through a collaborative research between the relationship of the systems and planning of a coal power plant to its environment. Data shall be gathered through site observation, related literature reviews, site observation, scientifically proven studies, and comparative analysis of successful case studies gathered.

Geothermal Power Plants
Author: Ronald DiPippo
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080554768
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 518
Book Description
Ron DiPippo, Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, is a world-regarded geothermal expert. This single resource covers all aspects of the utilization of geothermal energy for power generation from fundamental scientific and engineering principles. The thermodynamic basis for the design of geothermal power plants is at the heart of the book and readers are clearly guided on the process of designing and analysing the key types of geothermal energy conversion systems. Its practical emphasis is enhanced by the use of case studies from real plants that increase the reader's understanding of geothermal energy conversion and provide a unique compilation of hard-to-obtain data and experience. An important new chapter covers Environmental Impact and Abatement Technologies, including gaseous and solid emissions; water, noise and thermal pollutions; land usage; disturbance of natural hydrothermal manifestations, habitats and vegetation; minimisation of CO2 emissions and environmental impact assessment. The book is illustrated with over 240 photographs and drawings. Nine chapters include practice problems, with solutions, which enable the book to be used as a course text. Also includes a definitive worldwide compilation of every geothermal power plant that has operated, unit by unit, plus a concise primer on the applicable thermodynamics. * Engineering principles are at the heart of the book, with complete coverage of the thermodynamic basis for the design of geothermal power systems* Practical applications are backed up by an extensive selection of case studies that show how geothermal energy conversion systems have been designed, applied and exploited in practice* World renowned geothermal expert DiPippo has including a new chapter on Environmental Impact and Abatement Technology in this new edition
