Life of St. Onuphrius PDF Author: St. Salonius of Geneva
Publisher: Dalcassian Press
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en

Book Description
St. Onuphrius was one of the Egyptian Desert Fathers who is helped lay the foundation of Eastern spirituality and monasticism in the 4th and 5th centuries, around the time that Christianity was emerging as the dominant faith of the Roman Empire. The name Onuphrius is thought to be a Hellenized form of a Coptic name Unnufer, from the Demotic Egyptian, meaning "perfect one", an epithet of the pagan god Osiris. There are two surviving accounts given of his life. This work, by St. Salonius, and another by Paphnutius the Ascetic. The provenance of this Greco-Latin work is unclear, although it appears to be a work of the 5th century, and may have reasonable historicity despite its geographic distance.

Lives and Legends of the Georgian Saints

Lives and Legends of the Georgian Saints PDF Author: David Marshall Lang
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000483304
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 117

Book Description
With the exception of the life of St. Nino, none of the biographies here had been previously translated into English when this book was originally published in 1956. The lives of the Georgian saints are rich and many-sided, not dry chronicles of monkish trivialities. They contain vivid descriptions of life in the Caucasus, Byzantium and Palestine. They give the reader insight into the history and aspirations of an important branch of the Eastern Church and into its relationships with Zoroastrian Persia, the Arab Caliphate, the Imperial Court of Constantinople and the whole world of mediaeval Christendom.
