Book Description
Life history parameters summarize the growth, maturity and mortality of populations. This report describes the data used to calculate the life history parameters of 12 lean and 6 siscowet lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush), 26 lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis), 8 bloater (Coregonus hoyi), 9 walleye (Sander vitreus) and 12 yellow perch (Perca flavescens) populations in the Great Lakes. Interpopulation (among populations), intrapopulation (within populations through time) and virtual population analysis results are summarized in this report. These estimates of life history parameters can be used to inform fisheries management and ecological modelling.

Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Sauger: Aspects of Ecology, Management, and Culture

Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Sauger: Aspects of Ecology, Management, and Culture PDF Author: John Clay Bruner
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030806782
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 332

Book Description
Walleye, one of the most sought-after species of freshwater sport fishes in North America, has demonstrated appreciable declines in their numbers from their original populations since the beginning of the 20th century. Similarly, Yellow Perch, once the most commonly caught sport fish and an important commercial species in North America, have also shown declines. Compiling up-to-date information on the biology and management of Walleye, Sauger, and Yellow Perch, including research on systematics, genetics, physiology, ecology, movement, population dynamics, culture, recent case histories, and management practices, will be of interest to managers, researchers, and students who deal with these important species, particularly in light of habitat alterations, population shifts, and other biotic and abiotic factors related to a changing climate.

Category : Fish populations

Book Description
Whitefish Lake is a large, eutrophic lake located southwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario that supports a significant sport fishery for walleye dating back to the 1950s and more recently yellow perch. This report provides an historic summary of the lake's sport fisheries; examines the biological data on the sportfish species as they relate to changes in the fish community; assesses the status of sport fish populations based on biological parameters and creel survey results; and provides assessment recommendations for consideration in future studies.
