Book Description
Of all the factors that led to the idea of putting together and publishing these poems or rather verses as I see them, none is more important than the opinion of friends and newspaper editors. They are common folks, and are still given to their own commonly driven emotions. For a long time, they were my fans and they still remain so. Therefore, it was difficult to hide these (personal reflections) from their prying eyes, especially when they are in my studio - looking at paintings on one hand and reading through the likes of My Mother's voice, Charm, between Her face and I, Your breath on My brow, My Childhood past, last breath, another day Africa and many times, to mention a few. Their attitude (though urbane) made me believe in the notion of a commonplace, that wherever the contentions of a creative dominion (appreciatively talking) reigns the most, there is a good thing (a certainty) that the mutual affection of art and poetry will not be very far off. In the past, some read or either listened through readings by other people, and showed their emotions by crying. I mean shedding real tears, because they could relate to the contents of true life and experience - as put forward by The Pilgrim, between hanging and mid-life crises, Dear Sgt Major, Feeding but not Grazing, Another day Africa, A powdered rose, a perfect danger, Going Greek etc. Others asked for (signed) printed copies, which they later on bind, arranged and even performed themselves. By doing so, they were able to extract characters that sympathize (in a way) with their relationship on one hand, and another that reveals them for what they are, whilst there are other dimensions (according to most feedbacks) that still maintain a certain degree of neutrality. The Cat fighting its Claw, Pain when hooked, the problem of undressing a First love and others with a more romantic tone happens to be their most amiable examples and was more popular with this set of people.

Absent Friends

Absent Friends PDF Author: Frederick Busch
Publisher: New Directions Publishing
ISBN: 9780811211758
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 292

Book Description
For twenty years now, Frederick Busch has been a relentless chronicler of the human heart. Except for an occasional foray abroad, he has tended to set his fiction in a physical territory--the Northeast, upstate New York especially--which he has given literary shape. With the capaciousness of a Dickens and the control of a Hemingway, Busch's novels have come in steady counterpoint, raising and answering by turns insistent questions that worry even the plainest of domestic lives. In this his fifth book of stories, the Absent Friends of the title are the lost characters the author has so compassionately detailed, who long to recover their absent selves. But they are also, as Richard Bausch comments in The Philadelphia Inquirer, "friends we have failed, or who have failed us; it is the emotional cost of that estrangement that interests Frederick Busch."

Book Description
A cryptic but revealing diary entry, penned by an anonymous hand. A killer in the midst of a group of friends, waiting for their moment to strike. A body but why would they be the killers intended victim? The identities of all three are left as a guessing game-right until the climatic and dramatic ending. This sets the foundations that The Absence of Friends uses in a whodunit with a chilling twist. The story spans more than four decades prior, following the lives and loves of each of the main characters as they all find themselves colliding into one anothers worlds and into the crux of a hellish nightmare that none will allow themselves to ever forget. Shocking revelations come to the fore as each characters past is delved into and unravelled, taking us straight to the heart of their exciting highs and tense lows. Nail-biting tension mounts as the final tragedy strikes, leading us into an explosive finale that you wouldnt ever have seen coming. But with such strong bonds being forged amongst the friends, - who has the motive to kill? - who is their intended victim? - and who is the mysterious diary writer?
