Abdominal Angiography

Abdominal Angiography PDF Author: Werner Wenz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642930255
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 338

Book Description
The brilliant yet simple idea of introducing a catheter percutaneously into an artery, without first dissecting it free, using a flexible guide wire, has led to a truly revolutionary breakthrough in abdominal x-ray diag nosis (SELDINGER, 1953). In the meantime, methods and techniques for injecting contrast media into various vessels have become largely standardized; innumerable publications have appeared which deal with every conceivable aspect of angiographic technique and interpretation. This volume is designed to present our experience with abdominal angiography. We deliberately refrained from any systematic discussion of the genitourinary tract, which has been adequately dealt with in the literature, also with respect to angiographic findings. Our interest in the retroperitoneal region is based mainly on its significance in differential diagnosis. In ten years of angiographic activity, our Department had made successful use of a simple technique which appears suitable also for smaller hospitals. We wish to point out its diagnostic potential and, at the same time, to outline its limitations. Our experience embraces 2804 abdominal angiograms, which we have classified according to clinical and morphologic anatomical criteria. Their diagnostic interpretation has been compared with the surgical or histopathological results. This may help others to avoid errors of the type which we discovered in our own work. Angiographic diagnosis requires not only familiarity with normal radiographic anatomy, but also specific knowledge of angiographic patho morphology. We have tried to identify those features which typify the individual findings and to derive therefrom valid generalizations with the aid of simple sketches.

Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions of the Hepatobiliary Tract

Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions of the Hepatobiliary Tract PDF Author: Arthur Zimmermann
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783319269559
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 3517

Book Description
This book covers all liver tumors and lesions that clinically and radiologically mimic liver tumors. It provides readers with a comprehensive overview of this complex and rapidly evolving field. All aspects of surgical pathology are addressed, supplemented by detailed presentations of the lesions’ cell-biologic and molecular features. In addition, the methods employed for diagnosis and diagnostic algorithms are discussed. It appeals to pathologists and hepatologists and serves as an invaluable aid to diagnosis. The field of liver tumors and tumor-like lesions in adults and children has experienced tremendous advances in recent years. Specifically, the recognition of novel entities, deepened insights into known tumors, and refinement of classifications have necessitated continual updates and reappraisals. In addition, previous understanding of hepatic carcinogenesis and tumor progression has been transformed by the very rapid evolution of our understanding of cell biology, genomics, signaling pathways, cell interactions, and mechanisms of invasion and spread of hepatic tumor cells. These general pathology issues must be combined with surgical pathology if a comprehensive understanding of liver tumor pathology is to be achieved.

Neoplasms of the Liver

Neoplasms of the Liver PDF Author: Kunio Okuda
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 4431683496
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 411

Book Description
Primary liver cancer is a rather unusual malignancy in that the incidence varies tremendously from one geographical area to another. While relatively uncom mon in Western countries, it is the most prevalent malignant neoplasm in Southeast Asia, South Africa, and many other regions; in all, the countries in which primary liver cancer is very prevalent account for more than two-thirds of the world's population. In China alone, approximately 100 000 people die every year from primary liver cancer, mostly hepatocellular carcinoma. The incidence is rising in some countries, especially Japan, where it has doubled among males in the past 15 years or so, a staggering and puzzling trend. Since the demonstration of an etiological relationship between hepatitis B virus infection and hepatocellular carcinoma, intensive research has been con ducted in an effort to elucidate the role of the virus in hepatocarcinogenesis. Though much progress has been made, a full understanding of the molecular events leading to malignant transformation of the hepatocyte will probably require many more years of rigorous investigation. Chemical carcinogens and several industrial pollutants may also be involved in the etiopathogenesis of neoplastic liver disease.
