The Vatican's position towards Zionism has centered around the problem of the holy places and was generally negative. The Vatican observed neutrality in regard to the UN resolution equating Zionism with racism. Regarding the State of Israel, the Vatican was against the 1947 UN decision in favor of its creation, and asked for international status for Jerusalem. In recent years the Vatican's stance toward Israel has improved. The appendices on pp. 233-269 include a French translation of texts such as the Ten Points of Seelisberg, the guidelines for implementing the "Nostra Aetate" declaration, and the "Notes on the Correct Way to Present the Jews and Judaism in Preaching and Catechesis."
