The Lattice of Subquasivarieties of a Locally Finite Quasivariety

The Lattice of Subquasivarieties of a Locally Finite Quasivariety PDF Author: Jennifer Hyndman
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319782355
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 173

Book Description
This book discusses the ways in which the algebras in a locally finite quasivariety determine its lattice of subquasivarieties. The book starts with a clear and comprehensive presentation of the basic structure theory of quasivariety lattices, and then develops new methods and algorithms for their analysis. Particular attention is paid to the role of quasicritical algebras. The methods are illustrated by applying them to quasivarieties of abelian groups, modular lattices, unary algebras and pure relational structures. An appendix gives an overview of the theory of quasivarieties. Extensive references to the literature are provided throughout.

Phenomenology And Lattice Qcd - Proceedings Of The 1993 Uehling Summer School

Phenomenology And Lattice Qcd - Proceedings Of The 1993 Uehling Summer School PDF Author: Sharpe Stephen R
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 981454938X
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 340

Book Description
These six lecture courses provide the background necessary in the understanding of the application of lattice methods to phenomenology, and give examples of interesting applications. The first three introduce the necessary techniques: chiral perturbation theory, heavy quark effective field theory, and lattice gauge theory. The remaining three describe how these techniques are used, mainly in lattice simulations, in the study of interesting phenomenological questions: vacuum structure, finite temperature QCD, and electroweak matrix elements. What distinguishes this volume from others is its focus on providing the background necessary for us to understand the methods and the significance of lattice gauge theory research.

Interatomic Potentials and Simulation of Lattice Defects

Interatomic Potentials and Simulation of Lattice Defects PDF Author: P. Gehlen
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468419927
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 778

Book Description
This book is the proceedings of the Sixth Battelle Colloquium on the Science of Materials. The Colloquium was devoted to a new field of materials science in which computers are used to conduct the experiments. Although the computer methods used have reached a high degree of sophistication, the underlying principles are relatively straightforward and well understood. The interatomic force laws - a vital input into these computations - however are less well understood. Interatomic Potentials and Simulation of Lattice Defects primarily discusses the validity of a variety of force laws - either from a theoretical point of view or through comparisons of experimental results and those obtained with computer simulation. The format used in previous Battelle Institute Colloquia is followed. The opening session was aimed at providing an overall view of the field of interatomic forces and defect calculations by major contributors. It was led by Dr. G. H. Vineyard, one of the pioneers in this field. The second day was devoted to research papers on theoretical and experimental aspects of interatomic forces. The remaining days were devoted to research papers on computer simulation of the four types of defects: point defects, line defects, surface defects, and volume defects.

Sphere Packings, Lattices and Groups

Sphere Packings, Lattices and Groups PDF Author: John Conway
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475765681
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 778

Book Description
The third edition of this definitive and popular book continues to pursue the question: what is the most efficient way to pack a large number of equal spheres in n-dimensional Euclidean space? The authors also examine such related issues as the kissing number problem, the covering problem, the quantizing problem, and the classification of lattices and quadratic forms. There is also a description of the applications of these questions to other areas of mathematics and science such as number theory, coding theory, group theory, analogue-to-digital conversion and data compression, n-dimensional crystallography, dual theory and superstring theory in physics. New and of special interest is a report on some recent developments in the field, and an updated and enlarged supplementary bibliography with over 800 items.

Color Confinement And Hadrons - Proceedings Of The International Rcnp Workshop

Color Confinement And Hadrons - Proceedings Of The International Rcnp Workshop PDF Author: Hiroshi Toki
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814536814
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 339

Book Description
The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the various pictures of color confinement and its consequences on the properties of hadrons. We consider color confinement, chiral symmetry breaking, and the properties of QCD at finite temperature, as the fundamental subjects of QCD. We include discussions on the roles of instantons to hadron physics. We also provide ideas of critical experiments at medium to higher energies to identify the mechanism of color confinement and chiral symmetry breaking.

Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics

Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics PDF Author: Francesco Knechtli
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9402409998
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 149

Book Description
This book provides an overview of the techniques central to lattice quantum chromodynamics, including modern developments. The book has four chapters. The first chapter explains the formulation of quarks and gluons on a Euclidean lattice. The second chapter introduces Monte Carlo methods and details the numerical algorithms to simulate lattice gauge fields. Chapter three explains the mathematical and numerical techniques needed to study quark fields and the computation of quark propagators. The fourth chapter is devoted to the physical observables constructed from lattice fields and explains how to measure them in simulations. The book is aimed at enabling graduate students who are new to the field to carry out explicitly the first steps and prepare them for research in lattice QCD.

Hyperidentities: Boolean And De Morgan Structures

Hyperidentities: Boolean And De Morgan Structures PDF Author: Yuri Movsisyan
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9811254931
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 561

Book Description
Hyperidentities are important formulae of second-order logic, and research in hyperidentities paves way for the study of second-order logic and second-order model theory. This book illustrates many important current trends and perspectives for the field of hyperidentities and their applications, of interest to researchers in modern algebra and discrete mathematics. It covers a number of directions, including the characterizations of the Boolean algebra of n-ary Boolean functions and the distributive lattice of n-ary monotone Boolean functions; the classification of hyperidentities of the variety of lattices, the variety of distributive (modular) lattices, the variety of Boolean algebras, and the variety of De Morgan algebras; the characterization of algebras with aforementioned hyperidentities; the functional representations of finitely-generated free algebras of various varieties of lattices and bilattices via generalized Boolean functions (De Morgan functions, quasi-De Morgan functions, super-Boolean functions, super-De Morgan functions, etc); the structural results for De Morgan algebras, Boole-De Morgan algebras, super-Boolean algebras, bilattices, among others. While problems of Boolean functions theory are well known, the present book offers alternative, more general problems, involving the concepts of De Morgan functions, quasi-De Morgan functions, super-Boolean functions, and super-De Morgan functions, etc. In contrast to other generalized Boolean functions discovered and investigated so far, these functions have clearly normal forms. This quality is of crucial importance for their applications in pure and applied mathematics, especially in discrete mathematics, quantum computation, quantum information theory, quantum logic, and the theory of quantum computers.
