Book Description
In this Chapter, we discuss the latest advances in digital holography (DH) and digital holographic microscopy (DHM). Specifically, we study the different setup configurations such as single and multiwavelength approaches in reflection and transmission modes and the reconstruction algorithms used. We also propose two novel telecentric recording configurations for single and multi-wavelength digital holographic microscopy (TMW-DHM) systems. Brief theory and results are shown for each of the experimental setups discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of the different configurations will be studied in details. Typical configuration features are, ease of phase reconstruction, speed, vertical measurement range without phase ambiguity, difficulty in applying optical and numerical post-processing aberration compensation methods. Aberrations can be due to: (a) misalignment, (b) multiwavelength method resulting in Chromatic aberrations, (c) the MO resulting in parabolic phase curvature, (d) the angle of the reference beam resulting in linear phase distortions, and (e) different optical components used in the setup, such as spherical aberration, astigmatism, coma, and distortion. We conclude that telecentric configuration eliminates the need of extensive digital automatic aberration compensation or the need for a second hologram,Äôs phase to be used to obtain the object phase map through subtraction. We also conclude that without a telecentric setup and even with post-processing a residual phase remains to perturb the measurement. Finally, a custom developed user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) software is employed to automate the reconstruction processes for all configurations.

Holography

Holography PDF Author: Joseph Rosen
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1803565632
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 398

Book Description
Holography of today is a broad field developed in the meeting between optics and the digital world of computers. A hologram usually contains more or different information on the observed scene than a regular image of the same scene. The development of the field has been accelerated lately due to the improvement of digital cameras, computers, light sources, and spatial light modulators. As a multidisciplinary area, holography connects experts in electro-optical engineering, image processing, and computer algorithms. More experts are needed when holography is utilized in various applications such as microscopy, industrial inspection, biomedicine, and entertainment. This book provides an overview of the world of holography from the aspect of concepts, system architectures, and applications.

Digital Holography: Applications and Emerging Technologies

Digital Holography: Applications and Emerging Technologies PDF Author: Peter Wai Ming Tsang
Publisher: Frontiers Media SA
ISBN: 2832509215
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 158

Book Description
With the rapid growth of computing and display technologies, digital holography (DH) has undergone significant advancement in the past two decades. Contemporary research works have enabled holography, a technology which is originally intended for displaying three-dimensional (3-D) images, to be deployed in numerous scientific, engineering, and bio-medical applications. Notably, digital holography has been incorporated into quite a number of contemporary applications, such as, but limited to holographic cryptography, optical metrology, remote sensing and inspection, and more recently, quantum computing. The success attained with DH so far does not limit its development to its current state-of-the-art, but rather research on holography keeps on expanding, with new ideas and methods keep coming up in a sustainable manner. This Research Topic aims to collect representative works from experts in the field, with the aim of providing an insight on the overall picture on digital holography, as well as reporting existing methodologies and emerging technologies that are likely to have strong impact on future research directions. Participating in the Research Topic, either as authors or readers, also facilitates establishing a platform for researchers to network, and to share their knowledge.
