Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria PDF Author: Izabella Gawin
Publisher: Bergverlag Rother GmbH
ISBN: 3763348166
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
Gran Canary not only enjoys a fabulous reputation as a paradise of sunshine and beaches; it can also be described as one of the most versatile hiking islands of the Canary Archipelago. Connoisseurs praise it as a miniature continent because of its diversity of landscapes: shimmering dunes in contrast with luscious subtropical valleys, deep ravines with palm tree oases and glittering reservoirs, next to which are extensive pine tree forests and green slopes with grazing sheep and goats. To the North West cliffs drop down 800 m deep into the ocean, while in the centre of the island serrated, almost 2000 metre high ridges and bizarre rock monoliths emerge, which the Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno once interpreted as "fossilised storms of fire and lava". This Rother walking guide - following La Palma and Tenerife - is now the third featuring the Canary Islands: excursions to beaches and spectacular cave villages, walks through pine forests and atmospheric ridge paths. Due to the increased significance of hiking tourism, parts of what at times are more than 500 year old rocks have been carefully restored over the last years. These Caminos Reales (royal paths) stretch across the entire island and used to link remote mountain villages with coastal territory. Many proposed tours follow these mainly stone-paved hiking paths and are therefore also ideal for less experienced hikers. Experienced mountain hikers who are not afraid of "dramatic walks" will also find a rich offer of tours. The first comprehensive hiking guide on Gran Canary leaves nothing to desire! Coloured illustrations and excellent hiking maps at an ideal scale of 1:50,000/1:75,000 round off the picture and awaken the curiosity for ever new excursions into the charmingly bizarre world of the mountains.

No pressures

No pressures PDF Author: Pedro Villarrubia

Book Description
I publish this book, "No pressures", Canary Islands drawn, in english and digital format due to the success of a first hardcover book in spanish edition, “Sin presiones”, sold out in 4 months, with the desire to allow access to those who could not have it in their hands at the time."No pressures" was born from a personal desire, to publish a hundred of my drawings and watercolors made during my last 10 years in the Canary Islands. The book is basically divided into two sections. The first, more descriptive, focuses on showing my sketches of the Canary Islands, especially Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. The second is more didactic and shows the various techniques I use in my sketchbooks and my favorite topics. When I thought of publishing a book, choosing my sketches of the Canary Islands seemed the most natural thing to me. First, because I have lived here for years. I have drawn on the eight Canary Islands, but in this book two islands, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, have more prominence because I have lived on them, and therefore drawn, more. Second, because Canarias is very drawable. For me it is easy to draw in the Canary Islands: its climate, its light, its different landscapes and cities, its slow pace of life, allow me to grab a notebook and start drawing at any time of the year. And third, because here I got to know the phenomenon “Urban Sketchers”, which encourages us to draw a situation, to show on the Internet what we see with no limitations other than time, ability and personal style. This ebook contains in its 48 pages, in vertical format, the same drawings, watercolors and texts of the paper edition. Each chapter begins with brief words of introduction, showing 103 watercolors and sketches, 10 of them panoramic, and 4 photos, a selection of the hundreds of watercolors and urban drawings that I have done in recent years in the Canary Islands, many of them published in social networks like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and seen and appreciated by many people. The book also includes the words of 9 artists with whom I have drawn in different places, about drawing in general, about urban sketchers, about my drawings, or about me. This ebook has needed modifications to adapt it to the vertical format: the pages of the paper book are grouped two by two vertically, the double-page panoramic drawings of the printed book are joined to facilitate their placement, reducing their size and have been grouped in pages. To contemplate them well, the expansion possibilities of the electronic book reader should be used. I trust that you will like this "No pressures" ebook. It is the first of a collection that I have called as my blog, “Acuarelas y apuntes - Watercolors and sketches". I will appreciate the comments on it to improve it or complete it with new publications. THANKS. For a better quality of the drawings, the author recommends the printed edition. To do this you can contact the author through the information at the end of the book.

Book Description
A Guide to Gran Canaria Spain. Tenerife and Las Palmas Environment. Gran Canaria is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Europe. There are many reasons that explain this popularity apart of course of its world famous beaches. The main one might be the combination of microclimates, unique in the world. The landscape, the winds, the sea and the geographic situation on the 28th parallel, 60 sea miles from the African coast, defines the climate on Gran Canaria, island of volcanic origin and rich in contrasts. "Mini-continent" is perhaps the best qualified word to express the variety of landscapes in Gran Canaria, completed with a tourist infrastructure of first category. Both making the island attractive to visit at any time of the year. In fact, most tourists come in the winter time, avoiding the low temperatures in their home countries. Gran Canaria (1 560 km2, population of over 800 000) is the perfect choice for your "second home" in a warmer climate, whether a sun worshipper, avid golfer, fishing enthusiast, gourmet, or you prefer energetic hiking in volcanic mountain landscape and lush vegetation. The capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is the largest city of the islands and is well-known as an international city with exciting shopping opportunities and a rich cultural life. The climate on the southern coast is often referred to as the best in the world, and naturally, this is where most UK and Northern European residents prefer to live. Famously known as Spain's 'miniature continent', due to its diverse landscape and micro-climates, Gran Canaria is the third-biggest of the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria contains a mixture of towns, villages and seaside resorts, with the island's capital being Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a bustling city on the northeastern coast, known for its historic old quarter district and its endless selection of restaurants and bars. Combined with the superb year-round sunny weather and mild climate, Gran Canaria's beaches are one
