Book Description
Reformulation and Acquisition of Linguistic Complexity proposes a new answer to the question of the appropriation or acquisition of a mother tongue – a complex object, one that is both stable and perpetually evolving. This answer is based on the reformulating principle that children spontaneously apply; a principle that is illustrated here with children retelling the same story. These children are all 6, 8 or 10 years old and speak French, Italian, Croatian or Polish as a first language. This book demonstrates that the acquisition of any mother tongue is explained by the application of various reformulation procedures between source predications and reformulated predications. These procedures are comparable from one language to another, and different from one age group to another. This book also studies certain complex phenomena at the lexical and syntactical levels, and analyzes how children, depending on their age, treat these phenomena. Finally, we show that the acquisition of a mother tongue is a fundamentally linguistic activity.

La famille dans l’ordre juridique de l’Union européenne / Family within the Legal Order of the European Union
Author: Elsa Bernard
Publisher: Bruylant
ISBN: 2802768964
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 409
Book Description
Family law, with its civil law tradition, and strong roots in the national cultures of the Member States, does not normally fall within the scope of European law. However, it is no longer possible to argue that family law is outside European law entirely. There are many aspects of the family which are subject to European influence, to the point that the outlines of a «European family» are starting to emerge. This book is intended to highlight the European experience of family law and its substantive (i.e. European citizenship, EU social policy, EU civil service...) and private international law aspects. Union law therefore contains a form of «special» family law which is shared between the Member States and supplements their national family laws. Its theoretical and political importance in the Union, as well as its future, are discussed by the authors. Far from remaining fragmented alongside the national laws of Member States, it will likely develop to offer European citizens and residents a common family law within the EU.

Renforcer les compétences au Cameroun
Author: Shobhana Sosale
Publisher: World Bank Publications
ISBN: 1464807655
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 263
Book Description

ICT and Changing Mindsets in Education
Author: Kathryn Toure
Publisher: African Books Collective
ISBN: 9956715085
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 206
Book Description
The debate is no longer whether to use information and communication technologies (ICT) in education in Africa but how to do so, and how to ensure equitable access for teachers and learners, whether in urban or rural settings. This is a book about how Africans adopt and adapt ICT. It is also about how ICT shape African schools and classrooms. Why do we use ICT, or not? Do girls and boys use them in the same ways? How are teachers and students in primary and secondary schools in Africa using ICT in teaching and learning? How does the process transform relations among learners, educators and knowledge construction? This collection by 19 researchers from Africa, Europe, and North America, explores these questions from a pedagogical perspective and specific socio-cultural contexts. Many of the contributors draw on learning theory and survey data from 36 schools, 66000 students and 3000 teachers. The book is rich in empirical detail on the perceived importance and appropriation of ICT in the development of education in Africa. It critically examines the potential for creative use of ICT to question habits, change mindsets, and deepen practice. The contributions are in both English and French.

Legitimate expectations in Luxembourg tax law
Author: Fatima Chaouche
Publisher: Éditions Larcier
ISBN: 280791666X
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 489
Book Description
This book is the result of a 4-year research project conducted at the Faculty of Law of the University of Luxembourg. It explores the legal value and enforceability of tax circulars and tax rulings in Luxembourg domestic law in light of the principle of legitimate expectations and related principles. After studying the historical roots of both interpretative acts, this research questions the level of protection taxpayers enjoy when relying on circulars and tax rulings and contains a review of decades of administrative case-law to assess the judicial discourse on taxpayers’ rights to certainty. This book further investigates the case of circulars and tax rulings that contain interpretations of tax laws that are contrary to the law (contra legem) and builds upon the existing normative framework to introduce proposals addressing issues of uncertainty and inequality taxpayers are likely to suffer when relying on such interpretative acts.
