Rendere l'Unione europea più democratica e trasparente è una delle priorità della Commissione Juncker. Da qui la particolare importanza del diritto d'iniziativa dei cittadini europei, poiché dà ai cittadini europei la possibilità di esprimere le loro preoccupazioni in un modo molto concreto e di influenzare il programma politico e legislativo europeo. Il 31 marzo 2015 la Commissione ha pubblicato la prima relazione sull'attuazione di questo nuovo strumento. A tre anni dalla sua introduzione, i fatti dimostrano l'interesse della popolazione per l'iniziativa dei cittadini. In particolare, circa sei milioni di cittadini hanno già fatto uso del loro nuovo diritto, e tre iniziative sono riuscite a raccogliere più di un milione di firme. Tuttavia, ci rendiamo conto che alcuni aspetti possono essere perfezionati. Abbiamo pertanto avviato una riflessione sulle eventuali opzioni per migliorare lo strumento e intendiamo coinvolgere in questo esercizio tutti gli interessati.

Past (Im)perfect Continuous. Trans-Cultural Articulations of the Postmemory of WWII presents an international and interdisciplinary approach to the comprehension of the postmemory of WWII, accounting for a number of different intellectual trajectories that investigate WWII and the Holocaust as paradigms for other traumas within a global and multidirectional context. Indeed, by exceeding the geographical boundaries of nations and states and overcoming contextual specificities, postmemory foregrounds continuous, active, connective, transcultural, and always imperfect representations of violence that engage with the alterity of other histories and other subjects. 75 years after the end of WWII, this volume is primarily concerned with the convergence between postmemory and underexamined aspects of the history and aftermath of WWII, as well as with several sociopolitical anxieties and representational preoccupations.
