One of the initiatives of the CRTC has been to conduct research that will provide an accurate description of women and men in the broadcast media. This report presents research data from two points in time, the 1984 fall season and 1988 fall season. A major purpose of the study is to determine whether the portrayal of women and men has changed over this time. It focuses on two issues: the numerical representation of women and men in programming and advertising; and the roles in which women and men appear in programming and advertising.
