Book Description
Just off the Continental Slope, in the aqua-green waters near the Straits of Florida, is Key Kokomo. Purchased in the early nineteen thirties by a French orphan, the key became an opulent tourist resort known as the Key Kokomo, Pier House Resort." Jethro Thurman Billman, or JT, built his resort on a pier jetting out into the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic. On this key, freshly divorced Chet Walker discovers his worst nightmare is not running from an alcoholic broken marriage. He looks beyond Key Kokomos lush tropical palm tree lined beaches, wispy pine forests, and murky mangrove swamps, and sees a true monster in the keys owner JT. The two men become natural enemies, as Chet meeting new friends, wrestles with the ghosts of his past and his dreams for a future, and JT tries to consume yet one more tortured soul. JTs desperate plan, to continue a dying bloodline, starts to unravel, during a freakish early January hurricane, called Annabelle. Key Kokomo a tropical resort paradise, where love and alcohol flow as free as milk and honey, dreams glow as fresh as the morning sun, and reality comes with a sobering price.

Radical Reimagining for Student Success in Higher Education

Radical Reimagining for Student Success in Higher Education PDF Author: Jo Arney
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000979423
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 162

Book Description
Co-published with the Association for State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), which sponsored the project from which the book emerged. This book answers the question “What would your institution look like if students really mattered?” The authors argue that really putting student success at the center of attention will require a radical reimagining of higher education. Much of what is presented here is grounded in the findings of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ (AASCU’s) Re-Imagining the First Year (RFY) initiative, which brought together 44 member institutions over a three-year period to identify and test programs, strategies, and tools aimed at improving retention rates for first-year students. The book makes a provocative set of arguments about what is possible if campuses radically reimagine their culture, practices, structures, and rules with the primary purpose of helping students succeed in college and beyond.

Nietzsche, Freud, Benn, and the Azure Spell of Liguria

Nietzsche, Freud, Benn, and the Azure Spell of Liguria PDF Author: Martina Kolb
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 1442695838
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
The Mediterranean region of Liguria, where the Maritime Alps sweep down to the coasts of northwest Italy and southeast France, the Riviera, marks the intersection of two of Europe’s major cultural landscapes. Remote, liminal, compact, and steep, the terrain has influenced many international authors and artists. In this study, Martina Kolb traces Liguria’s specific impact on the works of three seminal German-writing modernists – Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, and Gottfried Benn – whose encounters with Ligurian lands and seas led to an innovative geopoetic fusion of word and world. Kolb examines each of these authors’ acquired affinities with Ligurian and Provençal landscapes and seascapes, revisiting and reassessing the long tradition of northern longing for a Mediterranean south. She also shows how Freud and Benn followed in the footsteps of Nietzsche in his most prolific years, a topic which has received little critical attention to date. Nietzsche, Freud, Benn, and the Azure Spell of Liguria offers a fresh approach to these writers’ groundbreaking literary achievements and profound interest in poetic expression as cathartic self-liberation.
