Book Description
There’s only one thing scarier than slaying a giant, fire-breathing dragon...slaying the wrong giant, fire-breathing dragon. Sir Terry knows that as a valiant (but solidly middle-class) knight he doesn’t have a chance of winning the beauteous Princess Gloria’s hand in marriage... unless he kills the dragon on the far edge of the kingdom and claims her as his reward. But Prince Charming never had to contend with re-zoning. After Terry defeats the dragon, he discovers he has slain the scourge of the kingdom next door. He’s still won a princess. Unfortunately, she’s nicknamed “Crazy Jane” for her habit of talking to dead animals. Luckily for Terry, Princess Gloria wants to give him another chance, and she arranges for him to save her from a fake kidnapping. Rescuing a damsel who’s not actually in distress ought to be easy, but events soon take a dangerous turn. No matter what, Terry must save Gloria. Because everyone knows that getting stuck with the wrong girl is truly a fate worse than dragons...

Dirty Deeds

Dirty Deeds PDF Author: Nancy J. Taniguchi
Publisher: University of Oklahoma Press
ISBN: 0806157054
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 434

Book Description
The California gold rush of 1849 created fortunes for San Francisco merchants, whose wealth depended on control of the city’s docks. But ownership of waterfront property was hotly contested. In an 1856 dispute over land titles, a county official shot an outspoken newspaperman, prompting a group of merchants to organize the San Francisco Committee of Vigilance. The committee, which met in secret, fed biased stories to the newspapers, depicting itself as a necessary substitute for incompetent law enforcement. But its actual purpose was quite different. In Dirty Deeds, historian Nancy J. Taniguchi draws on the 1856 Committee’s minutes—long lost until she unearthed them—to present the first clear picture of its actions and motivations. San Francisco’s real estate comprised a patchwork of land grants left from the Spanish and Mexican governments—grants that had been appropriated and sold over and over. Even after the establishment of a federal board in 1851 to settle the complicated California claims, land titles remained confused, and most of the land in the city belonged to no one. The acquisition of key waterfront properties in San Francisco by an ambitious politician motivated the thirty-odd merchants who called themselves “the Executives” of the Vigilance Committee to go directly after these parcels. Despite the organization’s assertion of working on behalf of law and order, its tactics—kidnapping, forced deportations, and even murder—went far beyond the bounds of law. For more than a century, scholars have accepted the vigilantes’ self-serving claims to honorable motives. Dirty Deeds tells the real story, in which a band of men took over a city in an attempt to control the most valuable land on the West Coast. Ranging far beyond San Francisco, the 1856 Vigilance Committee’s activities affected events on the East Coast, in Central America, and in courts throughout the United States even after the Civil War.

University Sheepdog in Westwood, L.A. PDF Author: Terrence Duren
Publisher: Page Publishing Inc
ISBN: 1683480937
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 606

Book Description
Retired UCLA Police Officer, Terrence Duren, at the center of the 2006 UCLA Taser Incident, writes his memoir, “University Sheepdog in Westwood, Los Angeles" to set the record straight regarding his life and law enforcement career. There were television news reports and articles written about the Taser incident and of Terrence Duren's past. Some of these news reports and articles were unflattering and did not paint a complete picture of him and other officers involved in the Taser incident. In addition to the protests held at UCLA and other UC campuses, there were high volume of telephone calls to UCLA with people voicing their anger and support over the Taser incident. These telephone calls came from people living in the United States and abroad. There was such a high volume of phone calls that UCLA’s telecommunications nearly broke down. After a complete and thorough investigation, the UCLA police chief as well as UCLA campus administrators, concluded that Officer Duren did not violate policy with his use of the Taser. "University sheepdog in Westwood, Los Angeles" is a memoir that gives a better understanding of Officer Terrence Duren and his former colleagues. This memoir is a story of "Sheepdogs" (police officers), protecting the "Sheep" (students\faculty\staff\visitors and others), from the "Wolves" (criminals). Some of the contents in this memoir will tell of Terrence Duren's Officer Involved Shootings, on and off campus, his working undercover for six months buying narcotics from UCLA hospital employees, his confrontation with members of the Nation of Islam, his SWAT standoff with an armed suspect, lewd and lascivious activity in the men's restrooms, his mentoring victims and suspects, flimflammer, and more! Additionally, this Memoir has contents regarding Terrence's childhood growing up around Black Panthers, his service in the United States Marine Corps in peace time and during the First Gulf War. This memoir is unlike any other police story ever told. As you read this memoir, sit down and strap up because you are about to go on a ride!
