Correspondence from Josiah Hale to John Torrey, dated 1838. In his first letter, date June 6, 1838, Hale informs Torrey that he is sending him a box of plant specimens from Alexandria, Louisiana at the suggestion of Milenes Leavenworth; in the second , dated October 4 of the same year, he inquires as to whether the specimens were satisfactory and assures Torrey he will send more in the spring. He also orders three copies of Torrey's Flora, for himself, a John Casson [?] M.D., and a J.B. Callana [?]. He describes the latter two as "the only two botanical friends I have in this part of the state."
