Isotopic Assessment of Heterogeneous Catalysis

Isotopic Assessment of Heterogeneous Catalysis PDF Author: John Happel
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323160182
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 209

Book Description
Isotopic Assessment of Heterogeneous Catalysis deals with the use of isotopic tracing to study the reaction mechanisms involved in heterogeneous catalysis. It presents special methods for using isotopic and radioactive atomic species for obtaining meaningful kinetic data that can be quantitatively used in mechanistic modeling. It also considers a number of industrial reactions under steady-state reaction conditions in which superposed tracer transfer is also at steady state. This book is comprised of eight chapters and begins with an introduction to heterogeneous catalysis and an approach to reaction modeling, as well as the experimental reactors for obtaining the type of measurements and data needed in transient modeling. The application of isotopes in studies of heterogeneous catalysis is also discussed. Subsequent chapters focus on the choice of intermediates and reaction steps in tracer experiments; the number of overall stoichiometric chemical reactions that can occur in order to generate product molecules from reactants; superposition modeling of mechanisms; and steady-state tracing. Transient tracing and the development of rate equations are also described. This monograph is intended primarily for students and teachers of such subjects as physical chemistry, as well as research scientists and technologists.

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to review the current, state-of-the-art application of isotopic methods to the field of heterogeneous catalysis. Isotopic studies are arguably the ultimate technique in in situ methods for heterogeneous catalysis. In this review volume, chapters have been contributed by experts in the field and the coverage includes both the application of specific isotopes — Deuterium, Tritium, Carbon-14, Sulfur-35 and Oxygen-18 - as well as isotopic techniques — determination of surface mobility, steady state transient isotope kinetic analysis, and positron emission profiling.

Laboratory Studies of Heterogeneous Catalytic Processes

Laboratory Studies of Heterogeneous Catalytic Processes PDF Author: E.G. Christoffel
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080887341
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 279

Book Description
Providing a concise treatment of methods of heterogeneous catalysis used in the laboratory, this book describes the basic phenomena of heterogeneous catalytic reaction systems and discusses in detail the experimental methods and procedures for investigating these systems. The introductory chapter illustrates the whole procedure with an actual example. The next chapter presents the basic phenomena of catalytic systems and the concepts used in studying them. The third chapter covers the description of methods for investigating reaction mechanisms and the dynamics of heterogeneous catalytic reaction systems. The last chapter discusses the design and operation modes of laboratory reactors, frequently used for the investigation of heterogeneous catalytic reactions. The approach is interdisciplinary, providing a balance between chemical engineering and chemical viewpoints of treating laboratory-scale reactors. Chemists and chemical engineers involved in catalyst research will be very interested in this book and it can also be usefully used in specialized courses for graduate students in chemistry or in chemical reaction engineering.

Catalytic Kinetics

Catalytic Kinetics PDF Author: Dmitry Yu Murzin
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444634630
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 754

Book Description
Catalytic Kinetics: Chemistry and Engineering, Second Edition offers a unified view that homogeneous, heterogeneous, and enzymatic catalysis form the cornerstone of practical catalysis. The book has an integrated, cross-disciplinary approach to kinetics and transport phenomena in catalysis, but still recognizes the fundamental differences between different types of catalysis. In addition, the book focuses on a quantitative chemical understanding and links the mathematical approach to kinetics with chemistry. A diverse group of catalysts is covered, including catalysis by acids, organometallic complexes, solid inorganic materials, and enzymes, and this fully updated second edition contains a new chapter on the concepts of cascade catalysis. Finally, expanded content in this edition provides more in-depth discussion, including topics such as organocatalysis, enzymatic kinetics, nonlinear dynamics, solvent effects, nanokinetics, and kinetic isotope effects. - Fully revised and expanded, providing the latest developments in catalytic kinetics - Bridges the gaps that exist between hetero-, homo- and enzymatic-catalysis - Provides necessary tools and new concepts for researchers already working in the field of catalytic kinetics - Written by internationally-renowned experts in the field - Examples and exercises following each chapter make it suitable as an advanced course book

Selective Oxidation by Heterogeneous Catalysis

Selective Oxidation by Heterogeneous Catalysis PDF Author: Gabriele Centi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461541751
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 519

Book Description
Selective Oxidation by Heterogeneous Catalysis covers one of the major areas of industrial petrochemical production, outlining open questions and new opportunities. It gives keys for the interpretation and analysis of data and design of new catalysts and reactions, and provides guidelines for future research. A distinctive feature of this book is the use of concept by example. Rather than reporting an overview of the literature results, the authors have selected some representative examples, the in-depth analysis of which makes it possible to clarify the fundamental, but new concepts necessary for a better understanding of the new opportunities in this field and the design of new catalysts or catalytic reactions. Attention is given not only to the catalyst itself, but also to the use of the catalyst inside the process, thus evidencing the relationship between catalyst design and engineering aspects of the process. This book provides suggestions for new innovative directions of research and indications on how to reconsider the field of selective oxidation from different perspectives, outlining that is not a mature field of research, but that new important breakthroughs can be derived from fundamental and applied research. Suggestions are offered on how to use less conventional approaches in terms of both catalyst design and analysis of the data.
