Isoleucine Requirement and Imbalance in Swine

Isoleucine Requirement and Imbalance in Swine PDF Author: Shuangxi Fu

Book Description
A total of 13 experiments involving 2,475 pigs were conducted to determine the effects of dietary protein source on the isoleucine (Ile) requirement of pigs, the reasons why this requirement is affected by protein source, and the maximum inclusion of spray-dried blood cells (SDBC) in swine diets. The lie requirement of pigs fed corn-SDBC diets was found to be much higher than that of pigs fed corn-soybean meal diets. Pigs fed corn-SDBC diets require 10.2, 13.1, and 11.8 g TID Ile for per kg gain while pigs on corn-soybean meal diets need 8.80, 11.3, and 8.74 g TID Ile for per kg gain in 88 to 122, 58 to 78, and 12 to 22 kg body weight ranges. This is due to the fact that significant branched chain amino acid interactions and Ile imbalance caused by excess leucine, histidine, and phenylalanine in SDBC necessitate higher lie for pigs fed diets containing SDBC as major protein source. Maximum inclusion of SDBC depends on dietary available Ile level. With supplementation of crystalline Ile, up to 5% SDBC can be included in late-finishing diets, however, only 2.14% SDBC can be used without supplementation of Ile. Diets containing SDBC with a Leucine:Ile ratio over 3.7 and (Histidine + Phenylalaine):Ile ratio over 2.8 may depress pig performance.

Nutrition and Feeding of Organic Pigs, 2nd Edition

Nutrition and Feeding of Organic Pigs, 2nd Edition PDF Author: Robert Blair
Publisher: CABI
ISBN: 1780647905
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 266

Book Description
Organic animal production has increased rapidly in recent years to keep up with the increasing consumer demand for organic meats. There are many guidelines and restrictions on what should go into the feedstuffs of organically farmed animals, from which difficulties arise when trying to ensure a well-balanced, nutritious diet without the use of any supplements. The book has been completely updated and revised to address how to formulate organic diets in situations where there is a declining supply of organic feed, as well as the feasibility of utilizing novel feedstuffs and their acceptability by consumers of organic meat products. Including the experiences of producers in relation to appropriate breeds and production systems for forage-based organic production, this book is an important read for researchers and students of organic food animal production, veterinary sciences and food; as well as food industry personnel and organic farmers.

Isoleucine and Valine Requirements of Piglets and Activity and Gene Expression of Key Enzymes of the Branched-chain Amino Acid Metabolism in Response to Dietary Leucine Excess

Isoleucine and Valine Requirements of Piglets and Activity and Gene Expression of Key Enzymes of the Branched-chain Amino Acid Metabolism in Response to Dietary Leucine Excess PDF Author:

Book Description
This study focused on the branched-chain amino acids isoleucine, valine, and leucine. The isoleucine and valine requirements of weaned pigs were estimated because they are performance limiting in low-protein diets. Interactions between the branched-chain amino acids are known but in pigs there is a lack of data. The impact of a dietary leucine oversupply on the metabolism of the branched-chain amino acids was investigated and the activity and gene expression of key enzymes were of main interest.
