At this point in my life, I decided to put life's memories together for my family. In 1922, I was born on a farm in the southwest corner of Mahaska County, Iowa. I am now 85 years old and have lived the BEST life! With this book I hope I can pass along some of the highlights of these 85 years! In my mind, all of it has been fun! World War II entered my life in December of 1942. After 30 hours of pilot training I washed out and went to airplane mechanics school in Biloxi, Mississippi. Out of the War in February of '46, on a Friday. Bought a restaurant on Saturday and went to work on Monday-my life has centered around it ever since. I met my wife of 56 years in 1950. Dorene and I had 4 great children and she has a great business sense. Along the way I was in numerous sidelines (wholesale route, bottling works, grocery store, Joe's Short Order in the Chicago Loop). All the way from Bussey, Iowa to Indianola, it's been great. I hope my family and friends will enjoy this story of my life.

Remembering the Irish Revolution chronicles the ways in which the Irish revolution was remembered in the first two decades of Irish independence. While tales of heroism and martyrdom dominated popular accounts of the revolution, a handful of nationalists reflected on the period in more ambivalent terms. For them, the freedoms won in revolution came with great costs: the grievous loss of civilian lives, the brutalisation of Irish society, and the loss of hope for a united and prosperous independent nation. Demonstrates that separatist thinking in Ireland was crucial even when the political focus was on home rule. This book analyses Fenian influences on Irish nationalism between the Phoenix Park murders of 1882 and the Easter Rising of 1916. It challenges the convention that Irish separatist politics before the First World War were marginaland irrelevant, showing instead that clear boundaries between home rule and separatist nationalism did not exist. Kelly examines how leading home rule MPs argued that Parnellism was Fenianism by other means, and how Fenian politics were influenced by Irish cultural nationalism, which reinforced separatist orthodoxies, serving to clarify the ideological distance between Fenians and home rulers. Long overshadowed by fellow republicans Patrick Pearse and James Connolly, Tom Clarke was the man who made the Easter Rising possible. During an extraordinary life dedicated to Irish freedom he rose from humble origins and endured thirty years of struggle, imprisonment and exile before becoming a master conspirator in the Easter Rising.
