Book Description
This protocol narrative outlines the rationale, sampling design and methods proposed for intertidal monitoring in the North Coast and Cascades Network (NCCN) as part of the Inventory and Monitoring Program. In 2000, the National Park Service initiated a long-term ecological monitoring program to track key indicators of ecosystem health, or vital signs. These indicators are measurable parameters that may provide warning of changes that can impair the long-term stability and character of natural park ecosystems (NPS 2001).

Book Description
This report presents data from the 2010 field season for the Sand Beach component of the North Coast and Cascades Network (NCCN) Intertidal Monitoring Protocol (Fradkin and Boetsch in press). The Intertidal Monitoring Protocol is part of the Inventory and Monitoring Program of the National Park Service (NPS). This program focuses on "vital signs", which are defined as "information-rich attributes that are used to track the overall condition, or "health" of park natural resources to provide early warning of situations that require intervention" (Fancy et al. 2009).

Longterm Monitoring Protocol for Rocky Intertidal Communities of Redwood National and State Parks

Book Description
The coastline of northern California is home to a diverse array of nearshore habitats that contain a wide variety of species. Geographic location, habitat diversity, and complex oceanographic patterns contribute to the rich diversity of marine life in this area. The northern coastline of Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) is primarily composed of rocky intertidal areas dominated by boulders and rocky bench areas. In recognition of intertidal communities being a potential vital sign for monitoring, the Klamath Network and RNSP began working with researchers from the MultiAgency Rocky Intertidal Network (MARINe) program to undertake field testing of a monitoring program based on a well established protocol. In 2004, we initiated the intertidal pilot monitoring study in this region.

Book Description
This report describes the first implementation of the "Protocol for Landsat-Based Monitoring of Landscape Dynamics at North Coast and Cascades Network Park" (Kennedy et al. 2007a). The Protocol contains a detailed description of the methodology for the NCCN landscape dynamics monitoring and provides the context for this report. In this report, we summarize the changes made to the original protocol methodology during its implementation. We also provide the results of the 2004/2005-2006 change detection analysis and validation for MORA, NOCA and OLYM. Lastly, we evaluate the ability of this protocol to address the NCCN's landscape dynamics monitoring goals.
