Proceedings, Third International Workshop on Object-oriented Real-time Dependable Systems

Proceedings, Third International Workshop on Object-oriented Real-time Dependable Systems PDF Author:
Publisher: Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers(IEEE)
ISBN: 9780818680465
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 372

Book Description
Annotation Proceedings of the February 1997 workshop, WORDS'97, include one panel discussion--selecting quality of service in a heterogeneous environment: bandwidth, security, fault tolerance and real-time behavior. The rest of the 45 papers are organized in sessions on models/language, operating systems/architecture, system engineering, system validation and verification, applications, dependability and fault tolerance, and communication. Two early bird sessions covered a variety of topics, including object-based checkpoints in distributed systems and time-bounded cooperative recovery with the distributed real-time application. No index. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.

Book Description
Proceedings of a July 2001 conference, covering all aspects of dependability in classical and networked computer systems, as well as topical areas in IT. There is a special focus on safety and security issues in embedded, multimedia, and Internet applications. Papers are in sections on modeling, algorithms, software demos, replication, software robustness, survivability and security, wireless and mobile communications, real-time, testing and runtime error detection, models for fault tolerance, hardware architecture and design, group-oriented systems, and practical experiences. Specific topics include model- based synthesis of fault trees from MATLAB, a dynamic replica selection algorithm for tolerating timing faults, constructing self- testable software components, and intrusion-tolerant group management in enclaves. This volume lacks a subject index. c. Book News Inc.

Distributed Systems for System Architects

Distributed Systems for System Architects PDF Author: Paulo VerĂssimo
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461516633
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 636

Book Description
The primary audience for this book are advanced undergraduate students and graduate students. Computer architecture, as it happened in other fields such as electronics, evolved from the small to the large, that is, it left the realm of low-level hardware constructs, and gained new dimensions, as distributed systems became the keyword for system implementation. As such, the system architect, today, assembles pieces of hardware that are at least as large as a computer or a network router or a LAN hub, and assigns pieces of software that are self-contained, such as client or server programs, Java applets or pro tocol modules, to those hardware components. The freedom she/he now has, is tremendously challenging. The problems alas, have increased too. What was before mastered and tested carefully before a fully-fledged mainframe or a closely-coupled computer cluster came out on the market, is today left to the responsibility of computer engineers and scientists invested in the role of system architects, who fulfil this role on behalf of software vendors and in tegrators, add-value system developers, R&D institutes, and final users. As system complexity, size and diversity grow, so increases the probability of in consistency, unreliability, non responsiveness and insecurity, not to mention the management overhead. What System Architects Need to Know The insight such an architect must have includes but goes well beyond, the functional properties of distributed systems.

Algorithms and Architectures for Real-Time Control 1991

Book Description
Computer scientists have long appreciated that the relationship between algorithms and architecture is crucial. Broadly speaking the more specialized the architecture is to a particular algorithm then the more efficient will be the computation. The penalty is that the architecture will become useless for computing anything other than that algorithm. This message holds for the algorithms used in real-time automatic control as much as any other field. These Proceedings will provide researchers in this field with a useful up-to-date reference source of recent developments.
