Advances in the Modelling of Thermodynamic Systems

Advances in the Modelling of Thermodynamic Systems PDF Author: Essefi, Elhoucine
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1799888037
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 309

Book Description
Thermodynamics is a common field of study involving many different specialties including physics, chemistry, geology, and cosmology. Thermodynamics is incredibly useful for manmade industrial processes related to material studies, renewable energy, and more. It is essential for professionals to stay current with the developments in thermodynamic systems, as thermodynamics proves vital for understanding natural macroprocesses related to geology, areology, and cosmology. Advances in the Modelling of Thermodynamic Systems discusses the recent advances in modeling of thermodynamic systems as well as the state-of-the-art manmade industrial processes and natural processes taking place on Earth and beyond. It reveals an interdisciplinary vision of thermodynamics from the minuscule to the immense. Covering topics such as entropy generation, linear modeling, and statistical analysis, this premier reference source is an essential resource for engineers, chemists, physicists, mechanics, geologists, cosmologists, students and educators of higher education, libraries, researchers, and academicians.

The Green Element Method

The Green Element Method PDF Author: Akpofure E. Taigbenu
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475767382
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 364

Book Description
Most texts on computational methods are borne out of research activities at postgraduate study programs, and this is no exception. After being introduced to the boundary element method (BEM) (then referred to as the boundary integral equation method (BIEM)) in 1981 by Prof. Jim Liggett of Cornell University, a number of graduate students and myself under his supervision took active interest in the development of the theory and its application to a wide range of engineering problems. We certainly achieved some amount of success. A personal desire to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of computational methods prompted one to take related courses in fmite deference method, and to undertake a self-instructed study of variational and fmite element methods. These exposures were not only quite instructive but fruitful, and may have provided the motivation for the current research on the Green element method (GEM) - a name coined by Prof. Liggett in 1987 during my visit as Professor to the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Cornell University. The main objectives of this text are to serve as an instructional material to senior undergraduate and first year graduate students undertaking a course in computational methods, and as a resource material for research scientists, applied mathematicians, numerical analysts, and engineers who may wish to take these ideas to other frontiers and applications.

Private Enterprise-Led Economic Development in Sub-Saharan Africa

Recalibrating teacher training in African higher education institutions

Recalibrating teacher training in African higher education institutions PDF Author: Sifiso Sibanda
Publisher: AOSIS
ISBN: 1779952503
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
This book critically examines the role of governments in promoting parity during and in post-pandemic education. This comes from the realisation that the pandemic has deepened the crisis by depleting the meagre resources that African countries might have devoted to ‘normative educational practices’ where those on the margins would have been pushed further behind while the privileged would have been further initiated into the cultural and capital flows of private schools and historically research-intensive institutions of higher learning. This has far-reaching implications for the education of underprivileged citizens, and education, particularly modes and modalities of delivery, has to be reimagined to subvert the challenges wrought by the pandemic. This book significantly bridges the gap between the pre-and post-COVID-19 pandemic pedagogical practices and the erstwhile modalities that have been resilient over time. The book focuses on ways to stave off pedagogical challenges that face countries as the global pandemic makes its mark.

Complex Systems, Smart Territories and Mobility

Complex Systems, Smart Territories and Mobility PDF Author: Patricia Sajous
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030593029
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 271

Book Description
This book reflects the outcome of contribution by the plural community and of the interactions between disciplines. With the mass of data available through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in an unprecedented quantity since the Human History, it is now possible to access dimensions of knowledge that, though not hidden, could not be grasped in the same way in the past. The question of how this information can be used for the benefit of institutional and economic actors to foster the development of a territory. Tackling the issue from a resolutely interdisciplinary perspective, the authors explore the theories and methods of complex systems in order to discuss how they can contribute in these new circumstances to territorial intelligence and to the development practices in which it is embodied. This book illustrates how today’s research explores the multiple facets of territorial systems in order to reproduce their richness. It invites readers to learn about the challenges, ideas, results and advances present in this domain.
