This seminar on transportation accessibility provided a forum for exchange of experiences on matters related to transportation for people with disabilities. Objectives were to provide an opportunity for experts to exchange information and experience on ways to improve accessibility, compare and contrast practices in North America and Europe, and review developments, trends, initiatives and areas for future collaboration. Exhibits included displays of accessible services and technologies, including converted vans, lifting equipment and buses. Papers discuss policy positions, policy application, legislation and regulatory framework, accessibility technologies (visual communication & automatic station stop announcement system for transit vehicles and stations platforms, accessible taxis, driver hand controls, mobiloop vehicular hearing assistance system for the hard of hearing), consultation-motivation options (planning accessible transportation, seniors and disabilities), and program initiatives (integration, R&D, and Program for transportation of the mobility disadvantaged in rural Manitoba).
