Infrared Spectroscopy of Minerals and Related Compounds

Infrared Spectroscopy of Minerals and Related Compounds PDF Author: Nikita V. Chukanov
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319253492
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1117

Book Description
This book provides an overview of the application of IR spectroscopy in mineralogical investigations, as well as modern trends in the IR spectroscopy of minerals. It includes the most important methodological aspects; characteristic IR bands of different chemical groups and coordination polyhedra; application of IR spectroscopy to the investigation of the crystal chemistry of amphiboles, phyllosilicates, tourmalines etc.; neutral molecules entrapped by microporous minerals; and analysis of hydrogen in nominally anhydrous minerals. About 1600 IR spectra (illustrations as well as a list of wavenumbers) of minerals and some related compounds are accompanied by detailed descriptions of the standard samples used. Each spectrum provides information about the occurrence, appearance, associated minerals, its empirical formula, and unit-cell parameters. The book also provides insights into sample preparation and/or spectrum registration methods. It includes IR spectra of 1020 minerals that were not covered in the book “Infrared spectra of mineral species: Extended library” published in 2014 and written by one of the authors. On average, each page provides information on two minerals/compounds. Subsections correspond to different classes of compounds (silicates, phosphates, arsenates, oxides etc.). About 290 new spectra have been obtained, and the remaining 1310 spectra are taken from most reliable literature sources (published over the last 60 years) and are redrawn in a unified style.

Handbook of Mineral Spectroscopy, Volume 2

Handbook of Mineral Spectroscopy, Volume 2 PDF Author: J. Theo Kloprogge
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128045213
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 634

Book Description
Handbook of Mineral Spectroscopy, Volume Two: Infrared Spectra, a Four Volume Set presents a database of Infrared spectra, showing both full spectra and high-resolution spectral regions with band component analyses of rock-forming and major ore minerals. IR of minerals is a very powerful technique for analyzing the different vibrational modes of minerals (in particular functional groups) but also the local environment of atoms in a crystal structure. The book includes a section on silicates and one on non-silicates, subdivided according to the normal mineral classes. This book is a go-to guide for anyone working with minerals and can be used for research and writing or as a handbook in the laboratory while running analyses of minerals. Features 2,500 full color Infrared Spectra for use by researchers in the lab and as a reference Includes band component analyses of the spectral regions of interest for each mineral Written by an expert with more than 25 years of mineral spectroscopy experience

Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy of Lunar and Terrestrial Minerals

Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy of Lunar and Terrestrial Minerals PDF Author: Clarence Karr
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483273660
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 390

Book Description
Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy of Lunar and Terrestrial Minerals makes available in a single reference work original descriptions and summaries of the research on infrared and Raman spectroscopy of lunar and terrestrial minerals so that this information will be readily available not only to those researchers in the continuing programs on lunar samples from the completed Apollo series and on the remote sensing of solar system objects, but, in particular, to that much larger group of researchers in government, industry, and universities involved in the many programs on terrestrial minerals and earth sciences by remote sensing. The chapters in this volume are arranged according to spectroscopic technique and/or frequency range rather than application. Thus there are chapters on visible and near-infrared, followed by those on mid-infrared, far-infrared, and Raman spectroscopy. Applications are roughly divided between lunar and terrestrial, although the broad range of interchangeability of applications is obvious in many instances. There are also chapters on remote sensing of space targets and earth sciences; on lunar mineralogy and terrestrial mineralogy and geology; and on structures of lunar minerals and structures of terrestrial minerals.

ISBN: 9789402400151
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1726

Book Description
Over the last 30 years, Dr. Nikita V. Chukanov has collected IR spectra of about 2000 mineral species, including 247 holotype samples. In this book, he presents 3309 spectra of these minerals with detailed description and analytical data for reference samples. In the course of this work, about 150 new mineral species have been discovered. After an introductory chapter, infrared spectra of minerals are given together with the descriptions of standard samples used (occurrence, appearance, associated minerals, empirical formula etc.) and some comments. Sections are organized according to different classes of compounds (silicates, phosphates, arsenates, oxides etc.).
