Infrared Optical Materials and their Antireflection Coatings

Infrared Optical Materials and their Antireflection Coatings PDF Author: J.A Savage
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780852747902
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 270

Book Description
Materials transparent to infrared radiation are becoming more and more important with the increasing sophistication and exacting requirements of their diverse applications. Although books have appeared on different aspects of this subject, Dr Savage is the first to collect all the relevant topics in one volume. His work contains details of accurate syntheses of the ultrapure materials, how the specific needs which arise are catered for (such as bulk materials for lasers and low losses for optical fibres), and why antireflection coatings are key components in infrared optical systems. Of interest to students of materials science, optics and allied fields such as physical sciences and engineering. It will also be an invaluable reference work for production scientists and technicians.

Development of Infrared Antireflection Coating for Ge33Se55As12 Glass

Development of Infrared Antireflection Coating for Ge33Se55As12 Glass PDF Author: Henry Y. B. Mar
Publisher:
ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 51

Book Description
Single-layer and double-layer, 8- to 14-micron antireflection coatings for Ge33Se55As12 glass were fabricated and evaluated. In addition, the transparency, vapor pressure, and behavior under CO2 laser radiation of Ge33Se55As12 glass was studied. Coatings were vacuum deposited by electron-beam heating. Hard and durable single-layer coatings of LaF3 were developed which could increase peak transmission to 90 percent between 8 and 10.5 microns. A strong absorption band in the glass, at 12.7 microns, degraded the transmission between 11 and 14 microns. With the exception of the low transmission caused by the glass absorption band the LaF3 and NdF3 coatings met the objectives of this program. (Author).

Book Description
Anti-reflection is a type of optical coating applied to the surface of lenses and other optical elements to reduce reflection. Anti-reflective coatings (ARCs) have evolved into highly effective reflectance and glare reducing components for various optical and opto-electrical equipments. These are indispensable in numerous applications and are increasingly demanded on highly curved optical components. Moreover, extensive research to minimize the reflectance as well as emergence of nanotechnology has contributed in the enhancement of ARCs in major way.

Infrared Testing of Bonds Between Graphite and Protective Coatings

Infrared Testing of Bonds Between Graphite and Protective Coatings PDF Author: C. K. Day
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Bonds
Languages : en
Pages : 14

Book Description
A nondestructive infrared method has been developed for testing bonds between coatings and graphite. Application of a special digital dual-scan technique makes the test independent of the specimen surface emittance (often called emissivity). In addition, this method does not require contact with the specimen, and can be automated for production testing. Heat was applied during tests by projecting a hot jet of helium onto the specimen surface. A commercial infrared radiometer was used to sense the resulting surface temperatures. This paper describes the theory and equipment, and some of the experimental results from tests on bonds between graphite and thin columbium carbide coatings.
