Elastic and Inelastic Scattering in Electron Diffraction and Imaging
Author: Zhong-lin Wang
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1489915796
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 461
Book Description
Elastic and inelastic scattering in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are important research subjects. For a long time, I have wished to systematically summarize various dynamic theories associated with quantitative electron micros copy and their applications in simulations of electron diffraction patterns and images. This wish now becomes reality. The aim of this book is to explore the physics in electron diffraction and imaging and related applications for materials characterizations. Particular emphasis is placed on diffraction and imaging of inelastically scattered electrons, which, I believe, have not been discussed exten sively in existing books. This book assumes that readers have some preknowledge of electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and quantum mechanics. I anticipate that this book will be a guide to approaching phenomena observed in electron microscopy from the prospects of diffraction physics. The SI units are employed throughout the book except for angstrom (A), which is used occasionally for convenience. To reduce the number of symbols used, the Fourier transform of a real-space function P'(r), for example, is denoted by the same symbol P'(u) in reciprocal space except that r is replaced by u. Upper and lower limits of an integral in the book are (-co, co) unless otherwise specified. The (-co, co) integral limits are usually omitted in a mathematical expression for simplification. I very much appreciate opportunity of working with Drs. J. M. Cowley and J. C. H. Spence (Arizona State University), J.

Optomagnonic Structures: Novel Architectures For Simultaneous Control Of Light And Spin Waves
Author: Evangelos Almpanis
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9811220069
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 370
Book Description
Understanding, controlling and, more importantly, enhancing the interaction between light (photons) and spin waves (magnons) can be, among others, a step towards the realization of magnon-mediated microwave-to-optical transducers for quantum computing applications or hybrid solid-state spintronic-photonic interconnections. In this respect, the development of novel composite multifunctional micro/nanostructures — so-called optomagnonic — which simultaneously control optical and spin waves and enhance their interaction, is particularly attractive. This book constitutes a collective work, comprising seven chapters from leading researchers in the field of optomagnonics and related areas. Apart from exciting recent developments, it provides the necessary fundamental knowledge in an explanatory manner and, therefore, it is accessible to non-experts. It is suitable for PhD students, post-docs, and researchers who are willing to get engaged in optomagnonics, while selected parts could also serve as lecture material for advanced courses. With increasing demand for miniaturized optomagnonic devices, this book will be an important resource to researchers working on optomagnonics, magneto-optics, spintronics, as well as on hybrid micro/nano devices for information processing.

Inelastic Light Scattering
Author: Elias Burstein
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483154602
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 120
Book Description
Inelastic Light Scattering documents the proceedings of the 1979 US-Japan Seminar held at Santa Monica, California, USA, 22-25 January 1979. The seminar is one of a continuing series of seminars on ""Current Developments in Science,"" which are jointly sponsored by the United States National Science Foundation and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science as part of the United States-Japan Cooperative Science Program. These joint seminars provide a medium for personal interactions between theorists and experimentalists from the two countries. The aim of the joint seminar on inelastic light scattering was to organize a program which would focus on important theoretical and experimental developments that reflect the complementarity of Japanese and US efforts in this important field. The topics covered by the papers presented at the seminar include resonant Raman scattering and luminescence; light scattering under intense illumination; resonant Brillouin scattering and non-local optics; enhanced Raman scattering by molecules adsorbed in metals; inelastic light scattering in superionic conductors and in glasses; Raman scattering by soft modes in IV-VI compound semiconductor and ferroelectrics; and central peaks in inelastic light scattering at structural phase transitions.

Inelastic Light Scattering of Semiconductor Nanostructures
Author: Christian Schüller
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540365257
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 183
Book Description
The field of semiconductor nanostructures is of enormous and still-growing research interest. On one hand, they are already realized in mass products such as high-electron-mobility field-effect transistors and quantum-well lasers. On the other hand, they allow, in specially tailored systems, the investigation of fundamental properties such as many-particle interactions of electrons in reduced dimensions. This book bridges the gap between general semiconductor textbooks and research articles.

Dynamic Light Scattering
Author: Bruce J. Berne
Publisher: Courier Corporation
ISBN: 0486320243
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 482
Book Description
Lasers play an increasingly important role in a variety of detection techniques, making inelastic light scattering a tool of growing value in the investigation of dynamic and structural problems in chemistry, biology, and physics. Until the initial publication of this work, however, no monograph treated the principles behind current developments in the field. This volume presents a comprehensive introduction to the principles underlying laser light scattering, focusing on the time dependence of fluctuations in fluid systems; it also serves as an introduction to the theory of time correlation functions, with chapters on projection operator techniques in statistical mechanics. The first half comprises most of the material necessary for an elementary understanding of the applications to the study of macromolecules, or comparable sized particles in fluids, and to the motility of microorganisms. The study of collective (or many particle) effects constitutes the second half, including more sophisticated treatments of macromolecules in solution and most of the applications of light scattering to the study of fluids containing small molecules. With its wide-ranging discussions of the many applications of light scattering, this text will be of interest to research chemists, physicists, biologists, medical and fluid mechanics researchers, engineers, and graduate students in these areas.
