Response of Root-knot Nematode (Meloidogyne Incognita) to Silicon

Response of Root-knot Nematode (Meloidogyne Incognita) to Silicon PDF Author: Jennifer G. Miller
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Nematode diseases of plants
Languages : en
Pages : 88

Book Description
Silicon amendments have been reported to suppress plant diseases in a few host-pathogen systems. Effects of Silicon amendments on Meloidogyne incognita, root-knot nematode, on Cucumis sativus, susceptible cucumber, were evaluated. In a greenhouse study, a single Silicon (Kasil 6, 26.6% SiO2) application (364.4 micrograms/ml) 7 days prior to inoculation did not suppress nematode infection. Nematode reproduction, infection, and penetration was suppressed (P >̲ 0.05) when plants were exposed continuously to Silicon (0.5 and 0.2 micrograms/ml) 7 days prior to inoculation. The Silicon product used in this study was nematicidal, and sub-lethal concentrations suppressed (P >̲ 0.05) infection and reproduction of M. incognita on tomato. No difference in nematode maturity stages was observed in plants after continuous exposure for 7 days, thus resistance was not induced by Silicon.

ISBN: 1443871052
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 540

Book Description
Global concern over the demerits of chemicals in agriculture has diverted the attention of researchers towards using the potential of PGPR in agriculture. This book contains many useful and important research papers pertaining to the use of bio-fertilizers and bio-fungicides for sustainable agriculture. This volume is presented in an easy-to-understand manner, with well-illustrated protocols on the production to commercialization of PGPR. The chapters on commercial potential, trade and regulatory issues among Asian countries are worthwhile additions. As such, this book will prove useful for students, researchers, teachers, and entrepreneurs in the area of PGPR and its allied fields.

Management of Phytonematodes: Recent Advances and Future Challenges

Management of Phytonematodes: Recent Advances and Future Challenges PDF Author: Rizwan Ali Ansari
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 981154087X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 401

Book Description
This book illustrates the currently available strategies for managing phytonematodes. It discusses the latest findings on plant-pathogen-microbiome interactions and their impacts on ecosystems, and provides extensive information on the application of microorganisms in the sustainable management of phytonematodes. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of the application of potential strains of biocontrol fungi, endophytes and actinomycetes to enhance plants’ ability to fend off phytonematode attacks, leading to improved plant health. In conclusion, the book addresses new aspects like the biofabrication of nanoparticles and their application in plant disease management, and presents an extensive list for further reading.

Bacteria in Agrobiology: Crop Ecosystems

Bacteria in Agrobiology: Crop Ecosystems PDF Author: Dinesh K. Maheshwari
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642183573
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 438

Book Description
The future of agriculture strongly depends on our ability to enhance productivity without sacrificing long-term production potential. An ecologically and economically sustainable strategy is the application of microorganisms, such as the diverse bacterial species of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB). The use of these bio-resources for the enhancement of crop productivity is gaining worldwide importance. Bacteria in Agrobiology: Crop Ecosystems describes the beneficial role of plant growth promoting bacteria with special emphasis on oil yielding crops, cereals, fruits and vegetables. Chapters present studies on various aspects of bacteria-plant interactions, soil-borne and seed-borne diseases associated with food crops such as rice, sesame, peanuts, and horticultural crops. Further reviews describe technologies to produce inoculants, the biocontrol of post harvest pathogens as a suitable alternative to agrochemicals, and the restoration of degraded soils.

Biocontrol Agents

Biocontrol Agents PDF Author: Mahfouz M M Abd-Elgawad
Publisher: CABI
ISBN: 1786390000
Category : Technology & Engineering

Book Description
This book describes entomopathogenic and slug parasitic nematodes as potential biocontrol agents in crop insect and slug pest management. Addressing research on these two nematodes from tropical, subtropical and temperate countries, it covers the new techniques and major developments regarding mass production, formulation, application, commercialization and safety measures. Plans for future strategies to make these beneficial nematodes cost-effective and expand their use by including them in integrated pest management programmes in different agro-ecosystems are also discussed. Biocontrol Agents: Entomopathogenic and Slug Parasitic Nematodes provides a comprehensive review of the topic and is an essential resource for researchers, industry practitioners and advanced students in the fields of biological control and integrated pest management.
