Book Description
In Search of a Golden Sparrow is a heartwarming story about seven-year-old Jeremy. He lives in rural America during the later years of the Great Depression and must struggle on crutches, for he was born crippled. When he finds a baby sparrow that has fallen from its nest and died, he feels sorry for the tiny helpless bird, but no one else seems to care. Later, events in his life cause him to feel worthless and helpless, like the little bird. His grandmother tells him that God cares about him and the little bird, and even said; He sees the sparrow fall. But Jeremy asks, Ifn He saw it fall Grammaw, how come He let it die? And how come I was born crippled? She tells him about heaven, its golden streets, and that he is more precious than gold. She also tells him, in heaven everything will be beautiful and that he wont be crippled. Thinking God might change the little bird into a golden one, Cause they aint too purty down here, he asks God to send him a golden sparrow. That way, hell know God hears him, loves him, and that he wont be crippled in heaven. During his search for a golden sparrow, his faith touches many, from an old man Hermit Bill, to Scotty Simmons (a kid who makes fun of him). The story was written, because during a difficult time in my life, I had asked God to give me something to write about that will touch peoples hearts. A week later, I happen to see a white sparrow with gold wing patches. Then after I had already begun the book, I found with the white one, a real golden sparrow!

About 10 million people on both sides change countries as refugees. After facing some terrifying nights during the riots, the Mehra family, being Hindus, moves to India as refugees and settles down in Delhi in makeshift quarters. With faith in God, they rise from the ashes of the partition of the country. They adopt a baby girl, Suneeta–one of many left orphaned as a result of the riots. Two years later, a Muslim couple shows up and claims her as their daughter; the Mehras are emotionally devastated. What follows is the conquest of human spirit over fear and despair.

In Search of Sparrows

In Search of Sparrows PDF Author: Denis Summers-Smith
Publisher: A&C Black
ISBN: 1408137828
Category : Nature

Pages : 150

Book Description
The humble House Sparrow, common everywhere, was surprisingly poorly researched and Summers-Smith's work soon provided interesting insights into this successful and adaptable little bird. Denis Summers-Smith first took up the study of the House Sparrow in 1947, thinking that the difficulties of travel in post-war Britain would best suit the study of a species always close at hand. As new opportunities to travel opened up, his interest blossomed to take in the genus Passer as a whole. His travels would ultimately lead to his study of all but one group, found only in the deepest Turkestan, and to the publication of his authoritative monograph on sparrows in 1988. While that book presented his knowledge of sparrow biology, this volume tells the other, human, side of the tale. His wry descriptions of the tribulations and unexpected pleasures of a traveller on four continents, from the Himalayas and Thailand, to Africa and the Americas (with a good few islands in between) are interspersed with observations and speculations on the biology of sparrows in a wide variety of habitats. Everywhere local officials and birdwatchers warmed to the eccentric Scot in pursuit of the little birds that nobody notices but which so often make their homes beside us. The author's own photographs and delightful cartoons by Euan Dunn further paint the picture of this lifelong search.
