Avec la prépondérance du digital dans notre société, les laboratoires pharmaceutiques doivent s'adapter aux nouveaux besoins des patients en prenant le tournant digital. L'objectif de ce travail est d'évaluer l'impact d'une stratégie multicanale sur le temps de recrutement des patients pour un essai clinique Une étude de phase II chez les patients diabétiques de type 2 a été conduite aux États-Unis. Le recrutement multicanal a impliqué l'utilisation de contenus sponsorisés, d'une page d'atterrissage disponible en ligne, d'un formulaire afin de sélectionner les patients répondant aux critères d'inclusion et d'exclusion de l'essai et d'un centre d'appels. Ce pilote a permis de démontrer une réduction de la période de recrutement, ainsi que l'importance des campagnes de communication payantes via des canaux comme Facebook, ou encore les communautés de patients en ligne dans le cadre d'un recrutement multicanal. Dorénavant, c'est avec le soutien des autorités de santé et en collaboration avec les professionnels de santé que les laboratoires pharmaceutiques travaillent activement pour réduire la durée des essais cliniques afin d'apporter plus rapidement de nouvelles solutions thérapeutiques qui puissent répondre aux besoins non couverts des patients. Enfin, afin de s'adapter au mieux aux nouveaux usages des patients en termes de digital, il apparait comme indispensable que la législation évolue.

Les difficultés de recrutement dans les essais cliniques touchent aujourd'hui tous les laboratoires pharmaceutiques, quel que soit l'aire thérapeutique. Outre les conséquences financières qu'elles engendrent, ces difficultés sont un réel frein à la mise sur le marché de nouveaux médicaments. La réglementation française sur les recherches biomédicales a pourtant su évoluer et protège aujourd'hui les volontaires qui se prêtent à ces études. Ainsi l'ANSM et un comité d'éthique revoient chaque protocole avant leur mise en place ainsi que les informations remises aux patients. Malgré cela les refus des patients restent importants. Ils peuvent être dus au caractère expérimental de ces recherches mais aussi à leurs contraintes, à la préférence pour un traitement...Ils peuvent également être induits par les investigateurs et notamment à la non présentation de l'essai aux patients ainsi que par le protocole en lui-même. Pour faire face à ces dificultés de recrutement, différents types d'action peuvent être mises en place par les promoteurs. Elles peuvent visées les patients, les investigateurs ainsi que le protocole d'étude. D'une manière générale, on peut penser qu'une meilleure information des patients pourrait permettre d'augmenter les inclusions. Cette information devra notamment être diffusée par le biais d'internet afin de toucher le plus grand nombre. L'utilisation des réseaux sociaux comme nouveau mode de recrutement devra également être envisagée. Par ailleurs, une meilleur communication avec les investigateurs et toute aide ayant pour objectif de les aider à identifier les patients potentiels sera une aide aux inclusions. Enfin, les critères d'éligibilité et le schéma de l'étude devront être mûrement réfléchis par les promoteurs afin de recruter le nombre suffisant de patient et répondre aux objectifs de l'étude.
