The Early Writings of Harold W. Clark and Frank Lewis Marsh

The Early Writings of Harold W. Clark and Frank Lewis Marsh PDF Author: Ronald L. Numbers
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000027511
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 562

Book Description
Originally published in 1995, The Early Writings of Harold W. Clark and Frank Lewis Marsh is the eighth volume in the Creationism in Twentieth Century America series, reissued in 2019. The book is a collection of original writings by the prominent creationist Harold W. Clark, and the biologist, educator and young Earth creationist Frank Lewis Marsh. Although both were significant figures in the anti-evolutionist movement of the early 20th century, unlike other members of the movement, both Marsh and Clarke were trained scientists studying under eminent evolutionists of the time. Both writers struggled to reconcile new scientific understandings of geology, botany and palaeontology, supported by Darwin’s theory of evolution, with their own creationist beliefs in genesis and flood theory. Both scientists as such began to develop their own theories of evolution that remained in line with creationist beliefs. This compact and unique collection includes the writings of Marsh and Clark from this period, featuring some of their well-known works on the subject including ‘Back to Creation’ and ‘Fundamental Biology’. This volume of original sources will be of interest to academics of religion, natural history and historians of the 19th century.

The Rocks Don't Lie: A Geologist Investigates Noah's Flood

The Rocks Don't Lie: A Geologist Investigates Noah's Flood PDF Author: David R. Montgomery
Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company
ISBN: 0393083969
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 305

Book Description
How the mystery of the Bible's greatest story shaped geology: a MacArthur Fellow presents a surprising perspective on Noah's Flood. In Tibet, geologist David R. Montgomery heard a local story about a great flood that bore a striking similarity to Noah’s Flood. Intrigued, Montgomery began investigating the world’s flood stories and—drawing from historic works by theologians, natural philosophers, and scientists—discovered the counterintuitive role Noah’s Flood played in the development of both geology and creationism. Steno, the grandfather of geology, even invoked the Flood in laying geology’s founding principles based on his observations of northern Italian landscapes. Centuries later, the founders of modern creationism based their irrational view of a global flood on a perceptive critique of geology. With an explorer’s eye and a refreshing approach to both faith and science, Montgomery takes readers on a journey across landscapes and cultures. In the process we discover the illusive nature of truth, whether viewed through the lens of science or religion, and how it changed through history and continues changing, even today.

Understanding God's First Earth

Understanding God's First Earth PDF Author: Howard W. Hall
Publisher: Grannys Books Publishing
ISBN: 0981861199
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 122

Book Description
Readers of Understanding God's First Earth--believers and non-believers alike--will feel Howard W. Hall's unconstrained, child-like faith God commands of His children, as this impassioned and devoted veteran Sunday School teacher of more than thirty years, explains his studied understanding of the Creation, as recorded in the Holy Bible's first eight chapters, in easily understood layman's words. Whether you agree or disagree with any or every aspect of Mr. Hall's heartfelt conclusions, Understanding God's First Earth encourages each of us to reevaluate the so-called scientific evidence presented as fact by the vast majority of contemporary science and academia today. In humankind's anxious pursuit of divine wisdom through science and technology, Mr. Hall contends much of the basis for our higher understanding is built upon supposition. Ultimately, Mr. Hall most readily concedes, only God can answer the many questions of how, why, and when we were created, posed by humanity's innate curiosity. But Understanding God's First Earth is one man's reflective, insightful verse-by-verse interpretation of the first eight chapters of Genesis that will most surely aid your understanding of Creation as written in the Holy Bible.
