Book Description
Excerpt from Illinois Hybrid Corn Tests, 1943 Corn planted the first week Of May had to be replanted because Of poor stands and weak, unthrifty plants. As shown in Table 1, all test fields were planted after May 25. Conditions following planting Of the test fields were favorable except at Alhambra, where heavy rains in early June drowned out the corn in parts Of the field and lowered the vigor of the plants generally. The surviving plants never recovered from this early setback, as evidenced by the low yields. Too little rain fall during August lowered the yields on the Sullivan and Alhambra fields. Growing conditions were extremely favorable for the growing and maturing of the corn crop. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. An Evolutionary Theory of Economic Change

An Evolutionary Theory of Economic Change PDF Author: Richard R. Nelson
Publisher: Harvard University Press
ISBN: 9780674041431
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 456

Book Description
This book contains the most sustained and serious attack on mainstream, neoclassical economics in more than forty years. Nelson and Winter focus their critique on the basic question of how firms and industries change overtime. They marshal significant objections to the fundamental neoclassical assumptions of profit maximization and market equilibrium, which they find ineffective in the analysis of technological innovation and the dynamics of competition among firms. To replace these assumptions, they borrow from biology the concept of natural selection to construct a precise and detailed evolutionary theory of business behavior. They grant that films are motivated by profit and engage in search for ways of improving profits, but they do not consider them to be profit maximizing. Likewise, they emphasize the tendency for the more profitable firms to drive the less profitable ones out of business, but they do not focus their analysis on hypothetical states of industry equilibrium. The results of their new paradigm and analytical framework are impressive. Not only have they been able to develop more coherent and powerful models of competitive firm dynamics under conditions of growth and technological change, but their approach is compatible with findings in psychology and other social sciences. Finally, their work has important implications for welfare economics and for government policy toward industry.

LSD, My Problem Child

LSD, My Problem Child PDF Author: Albert Hofmann
Publisher: Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies
ISBN: 9780979862229
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 224

Book Description
This is the story of LSD told by a concerned yet hopeful father, organic chemist Albert Hofmann, Ph.D. He traces LSD's path from a promising psychiatric research medicine to a recreational drug sparking hysteria and prohibition. In LSD: My Problem Child, we follow Dr. Hofmann's trek across Mexico to discover sacred plants related to LSD, and listen in as he corresponds with other notable figures about his remarkable discovery. Underlying it all is Dr. Hofmann's powerful conclusion that mystical experiences may be our planet's best hope for survival. Whether induced by LSD, meditation, or arising spontaneously, such experiences help us to comprehend "the wonder, the mystery of the divine, in the microcosm of the atom, in the macrocosm of the spiral nebula, in the seeds of plants, in the body and soul of people." More than sixty years after the birth of Albert Hofmann's problem child, his vision of its true potential is more relevant, and more needed, than ever.
