Satellite Systems for Personal Applications

Satellite Systems for Personal Applications PDF Author: Madhavendra Richharia
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119956102
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 477

Book Description
Presents the concepts, technology, and role of satellite systems in support of personal applications, such as mobile and broadband communications, navigation, television, radio and multimedia broadcasting, safety of life services, etc. This book presents a novel perspective on satellite systems, reflecting the modern personal technology context, and hence a focus on the individual as end-user. The book begins by outlining key generic concepts before discussing techniques adopted in particular application areas; next, it exemplifies these techniques through discussion of state-of-art current and emerging satellite systems. The book concludes by contemplating the likely evolution of these systems, taking into consideration influences and trends in technology, in conjunction with growing user expectations. In addition to addressing satellite systems that directly interact with personal devices, the book additionally considers those indirect applications where there is an increasing interest by individuals - notably, in remote sensing. As such, the book uniquely encompasses the entire gamut of satellite-enabled personal / end-user applications. Key Features: Broad scope - views satellite systems generically with regards to their applicability across a wide range of personal application areas Strong foundation in underlying concepts State-of-the-art system examples Review of trends in relevant areas of satellite technology Revision questions at the end of each chapter The book is suited to individuals, engineers, scientists, service providers, system operators, application developers and managers interested or involved in the use of satellite technology for personal applications. It should also hold interest for use in research institutes interested in promoting inter-disciplinary cross-fertilization of ideas, as well as by financiers, policy makers, and strategists interested in gaining a better understanding of this technology.

Electron Dynamics of Diode Regions

Electron Dynamics of Diode Regions PDF Author: Charles K. Birdsall
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 032316241X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 287

Book Description
Electron Dynamics of Diode Regions describes the model construction and analysis of motion of charged particles of diode regions in time-varying fields. The models analyzed are simplified versions of parts of practical devices, primarily active microwave devices, tubes, and semiconductor amplifiers, while the most striking results obtained are due to electron inertia and space-charge effects in terms of laboratory observable. This book is composed of seven chapters, and begins with an introduction to the general concepts of time dependent flow, including induced current, the techniques of linearization, calculating variational transit time, and obtaining equivalent circuits. The following chapters present the classical linear analysis, which includes the space-charge effects, with several applications. These chapters also explore the existence of a maximum stable current in a space-charge limited diode. The discussion then shifts to the basics of high velocity, klystron, gap with nonuniform field distributions, and the application of the multicavity klystron. This text further covers the analysis and examples of crossed-field gaps. The final chapters deal with the fundamentals of velocity and current distributions obtained from common electron emitters, with some attempt to show how the multivelocity streams evolve into single-velocity equivalents needed for the methods of earlier chapters. Results of applying the Lagrangian starting analysis to semiconductor diode regions, necessarily from a new equation of motion, are also provided. This book is intended for graduate courses, seminars, and research studies.

Digital Modulation Techniques

Digital Modulation Techniques PDF Author: Fuqin Xiong
Publisher: Artech House Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1056

Book Description
This newly revised and expanded edition of an Artech House classic builds on its success as far and away the most comprehensive guide to digital modulation techniques used in communications today. The second edition adds a wealth of up-to-date, critical material, including: Five new chapters devoted to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) covering its basics and practical implementation issues: peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction, synchronization, fading channel performance, and mitigation methods, as well as the newest developments such as wavelet OFDM schemes; New modulations for optical communications; Enhanced coverage of M-ary amplitude shift keying (ASK); More accurate bit error rate (BER) equations for quaternary phase shift keying (QPSK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM); Enhanced coverage of fading channel mitigation methods such as channel estimate and diversity techniques; Fast-access comparison of all modulation schemes; New appendixes covering trigonometry identities, Fourier transform pairs and properties, and Q-function and error function values.
