Adaptive Antennas and Receivers

Adaptive Antennas and Receivers PDF Author: Melvin M. Weiner
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849337642
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1246

Book Description
In our modern age of remote sensing, wireless communication, and the nearly endless list of other antenna-based applications, complex problems require increasingly sophisticated solutions. Conventional antenna systems are no longer suited to high-noise or low-signal applications such as intrusion detection. Detailing highly effective approaches to non-Gaussian weak signal detection, Adaptive Antennas and Receivers provides an authoritative introduction to state-of-the-art research on the modeling, testing, and application of these technologies. Edited by innovative researcher and eminent expert Melvin M. Weiner, this book is the first to integrate three advanced approaches to non-Gaussian weak signal detection into a single reference: homogeneous partitioning of the surveillance volume, adaptive antennas, and adaptive receivers. Comprising self-contained chapters contributed by renowned experts such as Donald D. Weiner and Ronald Fante, each chapter explores the techniques, theoretical basis, and applications of the approach under discussion. The book considers signal detection in the presence of external noise such as clutter residue, interference, atmospheric noise, jammers, external thermal noise, in vivo surrounding tissue, and camouflaging material, making it ideal for use across a broad spectrum of applications. This authoritative reference supplies more than 750 figures and tables, 1460 equations, and 640 references. Adaptive Antennas and Receivers is an ideal resource for improving performance in surveillance, communication, navigation, artificial intelligence, computer tomography, neuroscience, and intrusion detection systems, to name only a few.

Air-Sea Interaction

Air-Sea Interaction PDF Author: F. Dobson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461591821
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 797

Book Description
During the past decade, man's centuries-old interest in marine me teorology and oceanography has broadened. Ocean and atmosphere are now treated as coupled parts of one system; the resulting interest in air-sea interaction problems has led to a rapid growth in the sophistication of instruments and measurement techniques. This book has been designed as a reference text which describes, albng with the instruments themselves, the accumulated practical experi ence of experts engaged in field observations of air-sea interac tions. It is meant to supplement rather than replace manuals on standard routine observations or instnunentation handbooks. At the inception a textbook was planned, which would contain only well tested methods and instruments. It was quickly discovered that for the book to be useful many devices and techniques would have to be included which are still evolving rapidly. The reader is therefore cautioned to take nothing in these pages for granted. Certainly, every contributor is an expert, but while some are back ed up by generations of published work, others are pioneers. The choice of topics, of course, is debatable. The types of observa tions included are not exhaustive and topics such as marine aero sols and radio-tracers are omitted, as was the general subject of remote sensing, which was felt to be too broad and evol ving too rapidly. The guideline adopted in limiting size was maximum use fulness to 'a trained experimentalist new to the field'.

Inertial Navigation Systems with Geodetic Applications

Inertial Navigation Systems with Geodetic Applications PDF Author: Christopher Jekeli
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110784327
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 424

Book Description
This book covers all aspects of inertial navigation systems (INS), including the sensor technology and the estimation of instrument errors, as well as their integration with Global Navigation Satellite Systems, specifically the Global Positioning System (GPS) for geodetic applications. The text is of interest to geodesists, including surveyors, mappers, and photogrammetrists; to engineers in aviation, navigation, guidance, transportation, and robotics; and to scientists involved in aerogeophysics and remote sensing. The most recent developments are covered with this second edition that also features an updated treatment of the classical material. Detailed mathematical derivations of the principles of measurement and data processing of inertial measurement units for both stabilized and strapdown systems. Complete treatment of the error dynamics from a statistical viewpoint, including the Kalman filter. A self-contained description of GPS with emphasis on kinematic applications. Key concepts supported by illustrations and numerical examples.
