Particle Size Distribution in Hygroscopic Aerosols

Particle Size Distribution in Hygroscopic Aerosols PDF Author: George Richard Gillespie
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Acids
Languages : en
Pages : 84

Book Description
The selection and design of aerosol removal equipment depend largely on knowledge of the size of the particle. In this work the distribution of particle sizes of aerosols of sulfuric, phosphoric, hydrochloric, hydrobromic, chlorosulfonic, and nitric acids was measured by means of a four-stage, high velocity jet impactor. The effect of the relative humidity of the air system, the addition of foreign nuclei, the concentration of the aerosol particles and time on the size distribution was studied.

The Kleiner Feldberg Cloud Experiment 1990

The Kleiner Feldberg Cloud Experiment 1990 PDF Author: Sandro Fuzzi
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9780792333302
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 258

Book Description
The eleven papers presented in this issue are intended to provide a comprehen sive description of the cloud systems studied during the Kleiner Feldberg experi ment. The first paper provides a general overview of the experiment and a summa ry of the main accomplishments. The following three papers then describe the cloud systems from the meteorological, microphysical and chemical perspectives. Another four papers address more specifically the issues of incorporation of aerosol particles and trace gases within cloud droplets. A synthesis of the Kleiner Feldberg cloud properties and a comparison with experimental data is then provided by a paper which models the airflow and cloud mycrophysics and chemistry for selected cloud episodes during the experiment. Deposition of trace substances via cloud interception with the vegetation is the subject of the next paper, which integrates experimental data in a deposition resistance model. A technical paper at the end of the issue reports on a newly developed holographic technique to measure cloud droplet size distribution, which was tested for the first time during this experiment. The collaborative nature of the work accomplished within GCE is emphasized by the large authorship of most papers presented in this issue. This should not be regarded with surprise, but rather as an indication of the interdisciplinary efforts of the GCE scientific community for the accomplishment of this study. Mixed-Phase Clouds

Mixed-Phase Clouds PDF Author: Constantin Andronache
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 012810550X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 302

Book Description
Mixed-Phase Clouds: Observations and Modeling presents advanced research topics on mixed-phase clouds. As the societal impacts of extreme weather and its forecasting grow, there is a continuous need to refine atmospheric observations, techniques and numerical models. Understanding the role of clouds in the atmosphere is increasingly vital for current applications, such as prediction and prevention of aircraft icing, weather modification, and the assessment of the effects of cloud phase partition in climate models. This book provides the essential information needed to address these problems with a focus on current observations, simulations and applications. - Provides in-depth knowledge and simulation of mixed-phase clouds over many regions of Earth, explaining their role in weather and climate - Features current research examples and case studies, including those on advanced research methods from authors with experience in both academia and the industry - Discusses the latest advances in this subject area, providing the reader with access to best practices for remote sensing and numerical modeling

Atmospheric Aerosols

Atmospheric Aerosols PDF Author: Claudio Tomasi
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527336451
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 706

Book Description

A Plan for a Research Program on Aerosol Radiative Forcing and Climate Change

A Plan for a Research Program on Aerosol Radiative Forcing and Climate Change PDF Author: Panel on Aerosol Radiative Forcing and Climate Change
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309588871
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 180

Book Description
This book recommends the initiation of an "integrated" research program to study the role of aerosols in the predicted global climate change. Current understanding suggest that, even now, aerosols, primarily from anthropogenic sources, may be reducing the rate of warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to specific research recommendations, this book forcefully argues for two kinds of research program integration: integration of the individual laboratory, field, and theoretical research activities and an integrated management structure that involves all of the concerned federal agencies.
