Structure and Biological Functions of Histones

Structure and Biological Functions of Histones PDF Author: L.S. Hnilica
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351093843
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
This book endeavours to present an analysis of the current knowledge of the structure properties and possible functions of histones. The broad scope of this topic prevents the discussion of certain individual aspects in any detail. For this purpose, some of the more specialised review articles should be consulted. However, the present volume will contribute to a more general understanding of histone biochemistry and will provide stimulation, as well as source references, to the student of the cell nucleus and its functions.

Histones and Other Basic Nuclear Proteins

Histones and Other Basic Nuclear Proteins PDF Author: Gary S. Stein
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849355158
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 426

Book Description
This comprehensive book is a compilation of Professor Lubomir S. Hnilica's twenty years of research experimentally addressing the chemistry and the biological functions of chromosomal proteins. The histones and other nuclear proteins found associated with DNA in a number of tissues and cell types are featured. Lubomir Hnilica played a major role in establishing the extent to which these basic chromosomal polypeptides are conserved and the manner in which they interact with DNA to modify chromatin structure. In addition, non-histone chromosomal protein research is explained, and his technique of applying several biochemical and immunological approaches to the characterization of this complex and heterogeneous class of chromosomal polypeptides is discussed. Highlighted is the use of chemical crosslinking for studying protein/DNA interactions in intact cells. The proteins as well as the structure, organization, and regulation of the genes are also presented.

Histones and Nucleohistones

Histones and Nucleohistones PDF Author: D. M. Philips
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468418157
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 315

Book Description
The histones are now a very well established part of Biochemistry. The interpretation of all that is known about them, however, is already too great a burden for a single author to undertake. Indeed, a survey of the indexed literature shows that the number of publications on the histones has approximately doubled in every three years for the past 15 years, and is now several hundred a year. It is time then to bring together in one publication the major topics embraced by this great research effort. This book therefore endeavours to give, in six chapters, a broad and searching account of the biochemistry and biophysics of these interesting proteins and their complexes with nucleic acids, the nucleohistones. Each chapter is written by different authors who are all active in this research and who have had many years experience with these proteins and their complexes. Chapters 1, 2, part of 3, and all of Chapters 5 and 6, cover the occurrence, preparation, characterization, sequence structure, bio physical properties and finally, the biosynthesis and functions of the histones. The other part of Chapter 3, the whole of Chapter 4 and to a less extent some other chapters, all discuss the properties and structure of the nucleohistones. The study of these complexes is undoubtedly of great importance in bridging the gaps in our knowledge of template activity and differentiation as well as of chromosomal structure and mechanics.

Histone Mutations and Cancer

Histone Mutations and Cancer PDF Author: Dong Fang
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811581045
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 102

Book Description
This book focuses on histone mutations, especially those mutations closely related to cancer. Genetic mutations and epigenetic alterations contribute to the development of a variety of cancers: recent genetic studies have identified e.g. H3K27M and H3G34R/V mutation in over 75% of DIPG cases, H3.3K36M mutation in more than 90% of chondroblastoma cases, and H3G34W/L mutation in over 90% of giant cell tumors of bone. Given the high incidence and tumorigenesis effects of histone H3 mutations, they are also referred to as oncohistones. This book highlights the advances made in the area over the past 10 years, and offers a state-of-the-art summary of epigenetic alternation, gene expression, protein structure, drug discovery, immunotherapy, and mouse modeling of histone H3 mutations in various tumors. Chiefly intended to provide researchers and graduate students with an overall picture of these mutations, it will also be of interest to researchers in basic oncology, clinical oncology, and epigenetics, as well as academics and clinical oncology practitioners.
