High Temperature Oxidation and Corrosion of Metals

High Temperature Oxidation and Corrosion of Metals PDF Author: David John Young
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080559417
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 593

Book Description
This book is concerned with providing a fundamental basis for understanding the alloy-gas oxidation and corrosion reactions observed in practice and in the laboratory. Starting with a review of the enabling thermodynamic and kinetic theory, it analyzes reacting systems of increasing complexity. It considers in turn corrosion of a pure metal by a single oxidant and by multi-oxidant gases, followed by corrosion of alloys producing a single oxide then multiple reaction products. The concept of "diffusion paths is used in describing the distribution of products in reacting systems, and diffusion data is used to predict reaction rates whenever possible. - Provides a logical and expert treatment of the subject for use as a guide for advanced-level academics, researchers and practitioners - Text is well supported by numerous micrographs, phase diagrams and tabulations of relevant thermodynamic and kinetic data - Combines physical chemistry and materials science methodologies

Modeling of Chemical Kinetics and Reactor Design

Modeling of Chemical Kinetics and Reactor Design PDF Author: A. Kayode Coker
Publisher: Gulf Professional Publishing
ISBN: 9780884154815
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1132

Book Description
This reference conveys a basic understanding of chemical reactor design methodologies that incorporate both control and hazard analysis. It demonstrates how to select the best reactor for any particular chemical reaction, and how to estimate its size to determine the best operating conditions.

Physical Chemistry for the Biosciences

Physical Chemistry for the Biosciences PDF Author: Raymond Chang
Publisher: University Science Books
ISBN: 9781891389337
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 706

Book Description
This book is ideal for use in a one-semester introductory course in physical chemistry for students of life sciences. The author's aim is to emphasize the understanding of physical concepts rather than focus on precise mathematical development or on actual experimental details. Subsequently, only basic skills of differential and integral calculus are required for understanding the equations. The end-of-chapter problems have both physiochemical and biological applications.

High Temperature Phenomena in Shock Waves

High Temperature Phenomena in Shock Waves PDF Author: Raymond Brun
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642251196
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 344

Book Description
The high temperatures generated in gases by shock waves give rise to physical and chemical phenomena such as molecular vibrational excitation, dissociation, ionization, chemical reactions and inherently related radiation. In continuum regime, these processes start from the wave front, so that generally the gaseous media behind shock waves may be in a thermodynamic and chemical non-equilibrium state. This book presents the state of knowledge of these phenomena. Thus, the thermodynamic properties of high temperature gases, including the plasma state are described, as well as the kinetics of the various chemical phenomena cited above. Numerous results of measurement and computation of vibrational relaxation times, dissociation and reaction rate constants are given, and various ionization and radiative mechanisms and processes are presented. The coupling between these different phenomena is taken into account as well as their interaction with the flow-field. Particular points such as the case of rarefied flows and the inside of the shock wave itself are also examined. Examples of specific non-equilibrium flows are given, generally corresponding to those encountered during spatial missions or in shock tube experiments.

An Introduction to Chemical Kinetics

An Introduction to Chemical Kinetics PDF Author: Michel Soustelle
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118604229
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 484

Book Description
This book is a progressive presentation of kinetics of the chemical reactions. It provides complete coverage of the domain of chemical kinetics, which is necessary for the various future users in the fields of Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Macromolecular Chemistry and Combustion. It will help them to understand the most sophisticated knowledge of their future job area. Over 15 chapters, this book present the fundamentals of chemical kinetics, its relations with reaction mechanisms and kinetic properties. Two chapters are then devoted to experimental results and how to calculate the kinetic laws in both homogeneous and heterogeneous systems. The following two chapters describe the main approximation modes to calculate these laws. Three chapters are devoted to elementary steps with the various classes, the principles used to write them and their modeling using the theory of the activated complex in gas and condensed phases. Three chapters are devoted to the particular areas of chemical reactions, chain reactions, catalysis and the stoichiometric heterogeneous reactions. Finally the non-steady-state processes of combustion and explosion are treated in the final chapter.
